Throughout the event, attendees were immersed in a diverse array of sessions spanning plenaries, symposiums, and workshops, each offering unique insights and perspectives.

A renowned lineup of speakers shared cutting-edge advancements in diabetes care, engaging in lively discussions on the most prominent topics in the field. 

 

Latest data from NHS Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme unveiled 

New figures have revealed that 27 per cent of people who finished the NHS Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme by December 2022 achieved remission.

Professor Jonathan Valabhji shared the unseen data at the Diabetes Professional Conference 2024 at the ExCel in London.

Type 2 diabetes test may be inaccurate for thousands of South Asian people in UK, study finds

New research presented at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference 2024 has discovered a genetic variant almost exclusive to people with South Asian heritage that affects the accuracy of the diabetes haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test.

This test measures average blood sugar levels over the previous two to three months. It is crucial for diagnosing type 2 diabetes, monitoring prediabetes, and guiding diabetes treatment.

Early intervention can prevent diabetic kidney disease, specialist says

People with type 2 diabetes at risk of cardio-renal complications are less likely to develop diabetic kidney disease if they are started on preventative treatment early, a consultant nephrologist claims.

Speaking at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference 2024, Dr Andrew Frankel, Consultant Nephrologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, has said that diabetic kidney disease can be preventable if those at risk of cardio-renal complications are identified early.

Detecting what triggers diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) will help to prevent the development of the potentially life-threatening complication, a researcher specialising in diabetes and endocrinology has revealed. 

Dr Punith Kempegowda, Assistant Professor in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Medicine at the Institute of Applied Health Research, University of Birmingham, highlighted that the number of DKA cases could fall if healthcare professionals can identify and treat what is causing the development of the complication.
