Register here Other Training & Events Unix Shell and Command Line Basics The Unix environment is incredibly powerful but quite daunting to the newcomer. Command line confidence unlocks powerful computing resources beyond the desktop, including virtual machines and High Performance Computing. Getting started with HPC using Slurm High-performance computing allows you to accomplish your analysis faster by using many parallel CPUs and huge amounts of memory simultaneously. NewsConsent and Respectful Relationships new My Uni course To support a respectful and inclusive university environment, we encourage all students to complete the new MyUni course ‘Consent and Respectful Relationships’ to teach the core principles of respect and respectful relationships communication within relationships. This will help you understand the issues of consent, what constitutes sexual assault and sexual harrassment, and the support that is available. It contains discussion about relationships, dating, and sex. There will be mention of sexual harassment and sexual assault, including definitions and some examples of these behaviours. Applications close 1 September. Apply here! Mate Bystander Training Free three hour workshop for current students. This is an education and intervention program teaching us all to be leaders in the prevention of sexual violence and harassment. The program is designed to teach students how to recognize sexual violence in its various forms and have the confidence to speak out and offer help. Ultimately, we seek to inspire leadership by empowering participants with the tools to feel confident in addressing harmful and abusive behaviour. This training can be counted towards the Adelaide Graduate Award. Register here! Recognise and Respond Training This training is run by the University's specialist sexual violence counsellor, Jo McNamara. Jo will provide a brief overview of best practice responses to disclosures of sexual violence, as well as reporting and support options for student victims/survivors. Student laptops now available for loan Need access to a laptop? Don’t panic! The Library has a new Laptop Self-Service Unit that provides students with 24/7 access to laptops that they can take off campus. This service is available to all students at the University of Adelaide. The unit is located in the Barr Smith Library on Level 3. There are currently 24 laptops which can be borrowed for either 7 days, or 4 hours if you just need quick access. We hope you enjoy this new service! Volunteer opportunity for STEM students - Inspiring Women Program The Diversity Team in SET are looking for volunteers to assist in our Inspiring Women program. This program’s goal is to engage primary aged girls in STEM activities in a hands on and engaging way. We are looking for a number of current students to support our girls through the STEM activities by encouraging and giving gentle nudges in the right direction if they get a little distracted or confused. These students can be undergraduate or post graduate students but will need to be able to travel to North Terrace campus to contribute to the program. Lunch will be provided to volunteers.
