Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends,

One of the most inspiring parts of our school community is seeing our students take the lead in making it a better, more inclusive place. This week, our Student Welfare Committee and Community Committee led our Inclusion community block, creating thoughtful presentations and engaging activities that brought us closer together as a community.

In sports news, our MYP3 Girls' Volleyball team gave it their all at their tournament, and our Senior Boys' Basketball team is gearing up for the Island Championship. Win or lose, their dedication and school spirit make us all proud!

Seeing our students stepping up, both in the classroom and on the court is truly inspiring. A big thank you to our staff and parents for supporting them. These moments remind us that inclusion, teamwork, and perseverance are not just something we talk about; they are the values we live by every day.

With gratitude,

Dr. Rui Li

Principal

Spring Fling BBQ

Thursday March 13th, 2025 - 3.30 to 5.30 pm

Please RSVP here

On the 13th of March, we will host the “Spring Fling BBQ”—an after-school event featuring several spring-themed activities to raise funds for the non-scholarship expenses for Brookes’ seven Ukrainian students. By submitting a donation, you will be able to participate in one of four main activities to look forward to, such as knocking Ms. Chan and Mr. Isaac in a dunk tank, viewing the teacher karaoke challenge featuring Ms. Barton, Mr. Hernandez, Ms. Bayes, and even Dr. Li, alongside many more courtyard activities.

Top donors for the fundraiser will be granted exclusive benefits, such as being able to pie Mr. McMaster in the face, wax Mr. Thom's legs and being able to choose the song that will be performed in the Karaoke challenge!

We at Brookes have, and still deeply appreciate the generosity many families have shown towards our Ukrainian students, effectively incorporating them into our welcoming Brookes community.

Your contributions have granted each student the opportunity to pursue their dreams by supporting their journeys throughout the world-renowned IB diploma program, effectively granting them many academic pathways to the world’s top universities.

We will start collecting donations next week at the front desk!

Thank you!

Alejandro, DP2

Arts and Crafts ASA

Term 3 ASAs

Start Date: Monday, April 7th

End Date: Friday, June 13th

Registration

Registration for Term 3 ASA's will open on Monday. March 3rd and close on Friday March 14th.

Just a reminder for what registering for an ASA entails:

  • Students can choose up to 3 preferred ASA's PER DAY (#1 is first choice, #2 is second choice, #3 is third choice for each day).
  • Registering for an ASA does not guarantee a spot in the activity.
  • Registration is not "first come first serve" and students are assigned at random based on their selected preferences.
  • If you are assigned to an activity, of any preference, students are expected to attend.
  • Once ASAs begin, students will have 2 weeks to decide if they would like to stay in the activity. Afterwards, they will remain on the attendance list and no refunds can be made for chargeable activities.

Model Making ASA

A Parent Information Session will be held on Wednesday, February 26th at 4PM for parents of MYP5 students.

As our MYP5 students move to the Diploma Programme next year, it is important for parents and students to learn about the Diploma Programme and the courses offered at Brookes Westshore. I encourage all parents of MYP5 students to attend this session. I will be providing information about the requirements of the Diploma Programme, its advantages in university applications and guidance in choosing courses.

Students are encouraged to attend with their parents, but they will also have their own sessions during the school day.

Thank you,

Linda Bayes

Brookes Westshore acknowledges that our school is on the traditional lands of the Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) and Lekwungen (Songhees) ancestors and families.
With gratitude, we live, work and learn here where the past, present, and future of Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, faculty and staff come together.
