Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that Jada Bussey-Jones, MD, MACP, Carter Smith Endowed Chair, Sr. Professor of Medicine, has been named the new Division Director for General Internal Medicine (GIM), effective September 1, 2025. Dr. Bussey-Jones assumes this role after GIM's long-term Division Director, Ted Johnson, MD, MPH, steps down to pursue other opportunities within Emory.
Dr. Johnson was recently named the Director of the Academic Internal Medicine (AIM) Center, an exciting initiative within the division, aimed at enhancing GIM's faculty career growth, satisfaction, and effectiveness for the benefit of patients, learners, and the division as a whole. Dr. Johnson will remain the Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. We thank him for his many years of service leading the Division and look forward to the immense impact he'll continue to have in his new role with the AIM Center. About Jada Bussey-Jones, MD, FACP: Dr. Bussey-Jones received her Bachelor of Arts in biology and sociology and her Medical Degree from Emory University. Additionally, she completed a fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her national leadership roles include serving as President of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM), where she championed inclusive leadership and professional development. She has held key roles in regional and national organizations, including serving as Chair of the National Disparities Education Task Force for the Society of General Internal Medicine, where she led work on an award-winning curriculum and pre-course on disparities education and a national effort to develop and implement a "train-the-trainer" disparities curriculum. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including the 2005 American Business Women’s Association Award for Community Service, the Georgia American College of Physicians Community Service Award (2007), Emory's Nanette Wenger Service Award (2009), the Dean Teaching Award (2013), the Society of General Internal Medicine National Award for Mentorship in Education (2014), the AAMC GDI Exemplary Leadership Award (2023), the Emory Distinguished Medical Achievement Award (2024), election to Mastership in the American College of Physicians (2025), and the prestigious Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award (2025). As Division Director, Dr. Bussey-Jones will lead efforts to further unify and empower faculty across multiple sites, expand innovative primary care models, and elevate Emory’s national reputation in general internal medicine research and education. We look forward to Dr. Bussey-Jones' leadership of the division and ask you to welcome her as she helps to lead the Department of Medicine's mission to advance health through discovery, education, and care. Please join us in congratulating her on this important next step in her career and in wishing Dr. Johnson well in his new role with the Division of General Internal Medicine. Sincerely, |
