Although we did not receive a significant increase in annual funding for EDV, we secured three years of funding. This allows for better planning, more flexible services, and enhanced internal capability to provide these services through improved job security for staff. Outside of EDV, the budget included announcements for developing in-home intensive support services in two CYMHS services, a rural day program, and early intervention professionals in ten settings across the state. However, some services, such as our colleagues at the Victorian Centre of Excellence in Eating Disorders (CEED), were negatively affected. We are continuing to work with the Minister of Mental Health's office to get the Victorian Eating Disorders Strategy released, which we hope will inform ongoing sensible investment in our sector. Last Sunday, we celebrated World Eating Disorders Action Day at a Suncorp Super Netball match between the Melbourne Mavericks and the NSW Swifts. The Mavs, in partnership with Henley Homes, dedicated this game to raising awareness of eating disorders and funds for EDV as part of our Annual Tax Appeal. One of their star players, UK international Sasha Glasgow, shared her profound experience with an eating disorder through various pre-match videos on social media, an interview in the hospitality suite, a video on the game day big screen, and an interview on the Mavs podcast on Monday night. I spent some time with the players last Thursday, and they were deeply invested in the issue, asking insightful questions. This has been and will continue to be a fantastic opportunity for our EDV community to spread our message to the broader public. ![]() Claire Diffey (Chair EDV), Belinda Caldwell (CEO EDV), Tindi Sobera (GM Marketing Henley) Finally, we have kicked off our end-of-year Tax Appeal with our Stronger Together campaign and would love your support. We recognise the significant impact the SE-ED program has had in the community and the transformative role it has played in many participant's lives. Latest in Research: Research institution: University of Queensland Researchers the University of Queensland are seeking to better understand how religious and spiritual aspects influence the experience of eating disorders, with a focus on Christian spirituality. We will be hearing from people with lived experience of eating disorders, their loved ones, healthcare providers and pastoral carers about their experiences. Together, we plan to build on these insights to develop a resource to guide the integration of Christian spirituality into eating disorder care, where this is desired. Latest in Research: Research institution: University of Melbourne Difficulties with thinking flexibly have been noted in eating disorders, however, few studies have considered flexible thinking in patients who have partially or fully recovered from anorexia nervosa. This project is an online study investigating the relationship between various cognitive factors (including cognitive flexibility, rumination, perfectionism, self-efficacy and obsessional beliefs) and anorexia nervosa.
