Winterclub is heating up

As week two results rolled in, the competition is now shaping up, with the top contenders starting to calculate their earnings to secure a spot in the top four flights. It may be winter, but this competition is heating things up.

Highlights
In Section 3, O&D Black Rays have shaken up the ladder, moving from dead last right up to third with two impressive wins over Mt Albert Yellow and Kohi Upshots.  Balmoral (Section 4) remain the only team undefeated after four rounds with a full eight rink points. Papatoetoe (Section 3) find themselves on top of their section with seven.

Section standings snapshot

  • Section 1 belongs to anyone, with the top four teams all on 6 rink points, separated only by differential. The final two rounds will be crucial in determining who earns which flight in the post section play.
  • Pringle Park lighting put some serious points on the board in section 2, +56 for the day in shot differential to secure second on the ladder. They take on leaders O&D White Rays in round five for a chance to steal the topflight.
  • Papatoetoe and Henderson lead the field in Section 3; however, positions three through seven are only separated by two rink points, so a single game either way can make a significant difference.
  • Similar to Section 3, Section three is hotly contested with positions two through seven all within two rink points. Every match in round five and six is going to have an impact on who finishes in what spot.

Thanks to our hosts
A big thank you once again to our host clubs and volunteers. Howick, Bridge Park, Glendowie, Kohimarama, Carlton Cornwall and St Heliers. Your continued support makes this winter competition a success.

This week, we head to Glen Eden, St Heliers, Otahuhu, Blockhouse Bay, Howick and Carlton Cornwall as we look to confirm the top four in each section.

All finals action will be played at Remuera Bowling Club on 3 August. With those in flights one and two playing under cover, and those in flights three and four on the outdoor green. It is shaping up to be a massive day with an impressive spread of club representation, and we can't wait to see who will be there.
