Giving Others The Support He Wish He’d Had

👋 Hi, I'm Ryan!

I thought it was about time I introduced myself to you all. I'm Ryan, The Nightingale's Fundraising Manager and newest team member.

Eight months into my role here at The Nightingale and I'm more convinced than ever that this is where I need to be.

I've spent my career in fundraising because I believe communities deserve better support than they often get.

What drew me to The Nightingale was something deeper and more personal: my own experience with cancer.

When I started working here, I immediately thought, 'This is what I wish I'd had. This is what would have made my own journey better.'

That understanding shapes everything I do here. As The Nightingale's Fundraising Manager, I lead our small team through the challenge of balancing two critical priorities:

  1. Securing the income needed to keep our doors open and maintain our services
  2. Raising enough funds to expand what we can offer and help more people

In today's economic climate, that balance is tougher than ever but it's non-negotiable when you're supporting people through one of the hardest experiences of their lives.

Every decision that we make comes back to one question: How can we ensure more people affected by cancer can access the support they need?

Whether it's therapy, counselling or simply a space where people feel understood, our services are lifelines.

Currently those lifelines are free to anyone in need of them and it's my job to ensure we can keep it that way.

What keeps me energised in this role is knowing the impact we're making in our client's lives.

When I look at what we achieve every day I'm genuinely proud to be part of this team and part of The Nightingale.

I hope you're proud to be part of The Nightingale too.

If you've shared one of our emails this week, clicked to donate or just enjoyed reading what we've been up to, then you're part of The Nightingale community.

Every one of our supporters is a vital piece of the puzzle in making The Nightingale work. Thank you for your support in keeping our services going.
