No images? Click here Update - February 2024Dear supporter. Kia ora. Like us, you have no doubt been following the humanitarian crisis in Gaza with a sense of increasing disquiet. On 8 Feb, ShelterBox received authorisation to commence support in Gaza. We can now do something. In partnership with Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), we will provide tarpaulins, rope, and other items so that people can make temporary repairs to damaged buildings that will help keep them as watertight and protected from the weather as possible. The aid package will include blankets, mattresses, pillows, floor mats, washing sets, water carriers, kitchen sets, and items like nappies, toothbrushes, sanitary items, and body/hair wash. Vital items for people with no belongings and unable to return home, or people who have had their homes damaged or destroyed. We hope to lend some comfort to people in the most perilous conditions imaginable. Humanitarian conditions in Gaza are dire and worsening. And this for people who were already reliant on humanitarian aid the current volume of which crossing into Gaza, being a fraction of what’s needed.

Thanks to you, in 2023 we were able to support over 325,000 people. You helped us support people affected by extreme weather or climate events in Pakistan, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Libya, and Malawi. Violent conflict in Ukraine, Syria, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, and Ethiopia. Complex crises in Chad, Somalia and Yemen, and earthquakes affecting Morocco, Türkiye and Syria. Watch our video to see the impact of your support. We reached 63,000 people in Cameroon in 2023, supporting those fleeing violence, poverty, and the climate crisis. ShelterBox provides 90% of the aid in Minowao Refugee Camp. Following the devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Morocco in September, we supported over 4,000 people with tents, thermal blankets, solar lights, and kitchen sets. As a result of bitter civil war, starvation, and a failing economy, Yemen is experiencing one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. In 2023 we supported over 3,500 people with iron net shelters and essential items. Families in Somalia are taking desperate measures to survive due to looming famine and conflict. In 2023 we supported around 3,500 people with resilient timber frame shelters and tarpaulins We simply could not do this work without your support. Thank you for helping us turn despair into hope for people all over the world displaced from home as a result of disaster or conflict. These are people a long way from our home. But we care without regard to distance. And act when we can. Whakawhetai ki a koe mo to atawhai. Haere pai. Brent Eddy, Chair, ShelterBox New Zealand Charitable Trust |
