Updated Guidance for Management of COVID-19

The Chief Public Health Officer has approved updated guidance for management of COVID-19 in Educational Settings.

Key changes include:

  • updates to symptomatic children and staff including advise of the recovery and infectious period, which is 5-7 days
  • use of the term 'COVID-19 test' instead of specifying PCR/RAT where appropriate
  • updates to the 'COVID-19 cases in your educational setting' to advise that schools should avoid permitting cases to attend activities in vulnerable settings including residential aged care settings and designated Aboriginal communities. If cases are permitted, the schools should inform the vulnerable setting or designated Aboriginal Community Council, prior to departure for the planned activity.

SA Health strongly recommends that staff, students and children with symptoms stay home and reminds settings that approximately 50% of COVID-19 cases will still be infectious at day 5.

Educational settings should refer to their approved provider or governing body for additional assistance.

Educational settings can email Health.COVIDPublicHealth@sa.gov.au if they are experiencing high levels of transmission and need assistance. Please include details about the setting and the support needed.
