The talk will discuss the use of Omega-3s for the management or prevention of cardiometabolic disease. Omega-3s are mainly found in oily fish, nuts and seeds, and have long been linked to good heart health. This talk gives us the opportunity to delve into the evidence surrounding use of Omega-3s (in supplement or diet form) for the management or prevention of cardiometabolic disease. The answers are in no way straightforward. Join Frank in traversing this proverbial minefield and gain an awareness of the challenges of nutrition research as we attempt to piece together how Omega-3s contribute to our health. This talk is free to attend and is open to anyone with an interest in the topic. Power of PE – good school experiences have generational impactNew research from the Youth Sport Trust, conducted by YouGov, comes as the charity looks to National School Sport Week 20-26 June, when it will be championing a place for every child in sport and encouraging schools to focus on physical activity and sport environments where every young person feels they belong regardless of ability or motivation. In the aftermath of the pandemic, it wants to reclaim the life chances of a generation by changing parental perceptions and children’s experiences. The research found parents who had a positive experience of PE at school were almost twice as likely (63%) to say their children enjoyed PE at school today and much more likely to encourage their children to be active and play sport (vs 35% of those parents who didn’t have positive experiences). Active travel to schools in Scotland is holding at levels seen during height of pandemicThe percentage of school pupils travelling actively to school in 2021, either by walking, cycling, scootering or skating, has stayed at similar levels seen during 2020. This is according to new data from Sustrans' Hands Up Scotland Survey. 50.3% of school pupils surveyed said they normally travel to school in an active way, without any form of motorised transport. This is down from the high of 51.2% in 2021, but still notably higher than pre-pandemic levels of 47.8% in 2019. The findings form part of the annual Hands Up Scotland Survey, an official statistic in Scotland. Funded by Transport Scotland, the survey was carried out in September 2021 by Sustrans Scotland.
