SUCCESS STORIES ![]() Shasta College Logging and Forest Worker Registered PartnershipShasta College is California’s first educational institution to be issued a Commercial Timber Operators License. The college has partnered with Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) to give students real world training out in the woods, running the equipment, logging, and shipping their harvest. Industry leaders partnered with Shasta College’s faculty and administration to create California Registered Apprenticeship Forest Training (CRAFT), a pipeline that provides apprentices with the education and on-the-job-training needed to be successful in this industry that is aging out and in- demand. This new apprenticeship program was born to meet our North/Far North region’s needs. Our first cohort of apprentices will start in Spring 2022, as our program is gaining momentum and continuing to collaborate with additional institutions and employers. It is an exciting opportunity to share the many benefits of apprenticeship and to serve those re-entering the workforce, new to the workforce, or even those already employed but who are needing to upskill.
