Michael Feek was awarded life membership, and Kevin Hickland was awarded Patron at its 110th AGM held on Saturday, 29 July 2023. Bowls Auckland also welcomed the appointment of a new board member, Craig Pryor. Performance structureWithin Performance (representative, development, and talent identification) Bowls Auckland has seen an awesome opportunity to add value by offering identified players the chance to develop and play in a safe and growth focussed environment whilst creating a strong connection with Bowls Auckland. Bowls Auckland has created a new role ‘Performance Lead’ which Alison Rennie will fulfil and will focus on enhancing and building on what we have done in the past, and in collaboration with the team officials by establishing a ‘Performance Program’ that includes:
Alison Rennie commented, "Under the Performance Program we will work to support and grow player's capability to thrive and reach their potential, on and off the green. "Overall, we had pretty pleasing results last season, so I'm excited that with our team officials, we will be able to consolidate and build a successful program for the new season." "I am really pleased to have the following onboard as team officials: Neville Hill, Tere Brunton, Bev Crowe, Peter Blucher, Les Smith, Robyn Reihana, Robyn Fisher. Both Finals delivered close-fought battles. In the Plate Final, Pt Chevalier's Fours 2 snatched a win 27-26, and their Fours 1 were beaten by a bigger margin. Epsom Falcons won, 60-44. In the Cup Final, Mt Albert and Epsom Eagles fought a nailbiter, but it was Epsom Eagles day, taking the title, 56-55. Molly Mortimer TrophySometimes you need to shout for an umpire, but that wasn’t the case on Sunday, 30 July at Takapuna. Twelve hardy umpires from Auckland crossed the Rubicon to battle the North Harbour Umpires in the annual Molly Mortimer Challenge. The conditions of play stipulate that “Four teams each of Triples square off over two rounds of eight ends. It is a winner take all scenario based on shots scored and in the event of a draw the trophy will remain with the holder” being North Harbour. All eight games were closely fought, and as the teams assembled in the club rooms for post-match refreshments, no one was certain of the outcome. The results were announced - it was North Harbour 55–59 Auckland. The Molly Mortimer trophy was donated by Fay Chapman and Jean Ashby and named in honour of their mother, a passionate bowler and umpire. Jean is a life member of Bowls New Zealand and remains a stalwart of the North Harbour Umpires Association, where at 89, she still gets out and about on the greens with her tape and law book. Jean was in attendance on Sunday and made the official presentation. -- Gerard Hulst Jean Ashby presents the Molly Mortimer trophy to Auckland Umpire, Gerard Hulst Dale Knight, proudly holds the trophy surrounded by his fellow Auckland Umpires.
