Christmas closure

The Pharmacy Council of NSW wishes you a safe and happy holiday season.

Please note, our office will be closed for a period of 2 weeks from Monday 26th December 2016 to Sunday 8th January 2017.

If you email during this period, please be aware your matter may not be dealt with before Monday 9th January 2017.

Take extra care when dispensing prescriptions for PAEDS

When dispensing any script for a paediatric patient a pharmacist should ALWAYS check the age and weight of the child. Serious incidents can arise when a pharmacist fails to follow this procedure.

Notifications about health impairment

Are you concerned about any health issues of a colleague which may affect their personal safety or the safety of the public? If so you should make a notification to AHPRA

While it is understandable that you may wish to remain anonymous, this can make it difficult for the Council to obtain relevant information on the issue and delay assistance being given to the practitioner.

It is important to remember that the Council’s role is not to punish a pharmacist, but to ensure they are able to practise safely and competently.

The year in review - Regulation of pharmacists in NSW in 2015/16

During the 12 months to 30 June 2016 the Pharmacy Council of NSW managed 380 complaints about pharmacists.

Pharmacy inspectors have the state-wide function of conducting inspections and investigations to enforce compliance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW) and the Regulations. This includes inspection of existing, new and relocating pharmacies and investigation of complaints about pharmacists.

The year in review – Pharmacy Ownership

The Pharmacy Council is responsible for the registration of pharmacy premises in NSW and the registration of holders of financial interests in NSW pharmacy businesses.

As at 30 June 2016 there were 1,936 pharmacies registered with the Council, an increase of 10 from 30 June 2015.
