Recognising our incredible community membersCr David Asker recently presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Barbara Crook, in recognition of her contribution and dedication to the Frankston Arts Advisory Committee. Barbara has dedicated ten years to the Frankston Arts Centre Board and Frankston Arts Advisory Committee, bringing a wealth of experience, strategic insight and unwavering dedication. Barbara has been a strong advocate and offered continuous support, guidance and empathy to fellow Committee Members, Arts and Culture officers and the broader arts community. And is highly respected for individual integrity, intellect and strategic thinking to significantly impact the cultural landscape of Frankston City Council. Boosting local safety and wellbeingWe are reinforcing our commitment to community safety and wellbeing as part of our $1.7 million local support package. This includes $20,000 for the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation (Peninsula Branch): The funding will help purchase two fetal monitoring ultrasound machines for local hospitals, supporting maternal health and reducing stillbirth rates. The initiative also honours fallen police officers and recognises the ongoing dedication of Victoria Police. And $10,000 for Neighbourhood Watch Frankston: This funding supports the re-establishment of Neighbourhood Watch in partnership with residents, Frankston Police, and Neighbourhood Watch Victoria. The group (originally founded in Frankston in 1982) focuses on crime prevention education, community meetings, and safety awareness. Community Care service updateFrom July next year, Council will move our Community Care services to a shared delivery model. It means Council will continue to deliver and strengthen essential care service such as Meals on Wheels, Group Social Support and Community Transport Services, while transitioning other services to experienced external providers. There will be no immediate changes to the services we provide, and all clients will receive personalised support as we move through the transition. It's a move many other councils have already made — since 2023 over 25 councils have partially or fully transitioned out of direct service delivery — and comes at a time of significant reform in the community care sector. The decision wasn't easy. Earlier in the year we engaged with more than 1000 community members — including clients, carers, local providers and staff members - and heard about the importance of the services we provide. By moving to a shared model, Council will be able to focus on the services that deliver the most value, while ensuring fairness and sustainability across all Council services, facilities and initiatives.

Let’s start building better connections! It might seem surprising to live on the same street as someone — or even right next door — and not know their name. Yet for many people across Frankston City, feeling disconnected from their neighbours and local community is a common experience. This coming March, gather your neighbours for a BBQ, host a morning tea, or enjoy a picnic in the park — there are countless ways to connect with your Neighbours Every Day! The Neighbours Every Day campaign encourages our local communities to take small, everyday steps to connect, build friendships, and create a more caring, inclusive Frankston City, because the community we want starts right at our front door. Connection doesn’t have to be complicated — and of course you don't need to wait until March! Sometimes it starts with a wave, a smile, or sharing a cuppa. These simple gestures can spark lasting friendships and help build a stronger, more resilient community. The Neighbours Every Day initiative is run nationally by Relationships Australia and championed locally by the Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG) and Frankston City Council.
