On International Womens Day our staff offer words of wisdom to their younger selves, and to our students. Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends, This week’s unexpected weather, with snow and hail in March, reminded us of life’s unpredictability and the importance of adaptability in our journey. Meanwhile, it seems to be an extended flu season this year with an increase in sickness. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to parents who prioritize the health and safety of our community by keeping their child(ren) home when they are unwell. I’d also like to express my heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated staff who have been working tirelessly through this challenging flu season. As we celebrate the International Women’s Day today, a special acknowledgment goes to the inspiring women who contribute to our school community and beyond. Your dedication and positive influence serve as shining examples, shaping the aspirations of our students! In the spirit of unity, we also want to address uniform expectations. Please read the note from Mr. B below - a heads up for when we return from Spring Break. A reminder that there are no ASAs next week. The last day of school before spring break is March 15th with regular dismissal time at 3:20 pm. The first day back to school following the break is April 2nd. Wishing everyone a great weekend and continued good health! Dr. Rui Li Principal School Uniform As we look ahead to our return from spring break, we would like to let students and parents know that we will be enhancing our efforts to enforce our uniform guidelines more strictly. Our school uniform serves as a visible symbol of our collective identity and commitment to excellence. By adhering to these standards, we not only demonstrate our respect for tradition but also showcase our unity as a community dedicated to academic achievement, inclusion, and personal growth. This will include the renewed implementation of rental uniform and the rental fee for students not meeting the uniform guidelines. Your support in reinforcing the importance of adherence to the uniform policy is appreciated. For any questions, feel free to contact Mr. B. MYP 4 Science The MYP4 students just completed their scientific investigation unit! They designed their own scientific investigation based on their choice of a popular science show demonstration or at-home experiment, then they conducted the investigation, collected data, and evaluated their hypothesis based of the results. We got some pretty successful slimes and baking soda volcanoes and overweight gummy bears and bouncy eggs at the end! MYP 1 French Fashion Show The MYP 1 French class put on a fun fashion show this morning - exploring the reasons why we wear clothes and learning the French vocabulary and phrases used to describe clothing and fashion. Term 3 ASA sign up ends next Friday, March 15th. Allocations will be announced at the end of Spring Break! Last chance to sign up for MYP4/5 Tofino Trip (May 3rd - 5th) is Monday, March 11th. Only 5 spots left!! Senior Boys' Basketball Provincial Championships Yesterday, Shaun hit three 3’s in the third quarter and Tristan, Noam, and Logan all dropped 15 points as the Gryphons (Ranked 15th in the province) took down the 10th ranked Cedar team by a final score of 66 - 61. They play tonight at 7pm facing off against island rival Duncan Christian School. You can watch it live here (please note there is a charge). Spring is on the way and the local wildlife is emerging from their winter retreats. An eagle stopped by to cheer the Senior Boys' Basketball team off to Provincials!
