5 October 2022

In my last newsletter, I advised that the Expert Panel intended to hold engagement events to provide an opportunity for key stakeholders and the community to provide their feedback on the matters the subject of the Panel’s review, being the:

  • Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016;
  • Planning and Design Code and related instruments, as it relates to infill policy, trees, character, heritage and car parking;
  • ePlanning system, to ensure it is delivering an efficient and user-friendly process and platform; and
  • PlanSA website, to check usability and ease of community access to information.

I am now pleased to confirm that on Monday 17 October 2022, the Panel will be releasing three (3) Discussion Papers, and registrations will be open for a series of engagement workshops.

The Discussion Papers will elaborate on the areas the Panel has identified for potential reform and will pose questions for your consideration and response. However, as the Panel is interested to hear about all ideas for reform that may benefit the South Australian community, you are encouraged to raise any matters that have not otherwise been canvassed in the Discussion Papers.

In addition, to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate in the review, plain English summary fact sheets are also being prepared to assist members of the public in making a submission to the Panel.

The Panel’s workshops will delve into the matters raised in the Discussion Papers and will be held as follows:

  • Monday 24 October 2022 – Online State Government Practitioner Workshop
  • Thursday 27 October 2022 – In Person Local Government Mayors and CEOs Workshop (Session 1: Metropolitan & Regional Centres, Session 2: Regional & Remote)
  • Monday 31 October 2022 – Online Local Government Mayors and CEOs Workshop
  • Tuesday 8 November 2022 – Online Building Practitioner Workshop
  • Wednesday 16 November 2022 – In Person Planning Practitioner Workshop
  • Monday 21 November 2022 – Online Planning Practitioner Workshop
  • Thursday 24 November 2022 – In person Planning Practitioner Workshop
  • Thursday 1 December 2022 – Online Community Workshop
  • Thursday 8 December 2022-  In Person Community Workshop
  • Monday 12 December 2022 – In Person Community Workshop

Representative bodies will also be invited to make a deputation to the Expert Panel, on behalf of their memberships.

In addition to the above, all South Australians are encouraged to participate in the review by:

  • making a submission directly to the Panel (via email or post); or
  • making a submission or completing a survey through the Panel’s YourSAy page.

The YourSAy page, together with the workshop registration details, will be available from Monday 17 October 2022 and will be shared on the Panel’s webpage and via this newsletter, at that time.

Notwithstanding, the Panel remains open to receiving general submissions on issues pertaining to the review and I confirm that submissions will close on Friday 16 December 2022.

Submissions can be sent to the Panel:

  • Via email: DTI.PlanningReview@sa.gov.au
  • Via post: Attention: Expert Panel, GPO Box 1815, Adelaide SA 5001
  • Via phone: 08 7133 3222

All South Australians are encouraged to participate in this important work by making a submission to the Panel for its consideration, and I thank those of you that have already done so.
