I noticed the encouraging glances of the interns who offered coaching and helped explain plans. We soaked in the bedside teaching points from the senior resident, stopped in the hallway to learn from fellows, and received sage advice from senior consultants on subspecialty services. At the elevator, a junior faculty member enthusiastically shared about a curriculum she recently developed, and a mid-career faculty member sought advice while preparing a promotion packet. Then, moments later, I witnessed members of our residency leadership team pausing for a break between thoughtful rank list preparation. Over lunch, I responded to emails from a DOM Senior Writer helping with a manuscript revision, exchanged ideas with our RYSE Program Coordinator and Associate Vice Chair, and tried not to be distracted by news alerts impacting so many in our midst. When I returned to the wards, I stopped to see a patient being discharged from the hospital. We laughed out loud about children and grandchildren. We worked through strategies for medications and primary care follow-up. We marveled at how much things had improved since being hospitalized and co-created a plan for continuing that path. And, in that moment, I was reminded of the universal why so many in the DOM do all the things we do — to improve the health of our current and future patients. Even in uncertain times, our commitment to supporting, elevating, and appreciating each other as we all work toward a shared mission doesn’t change. Whether your work is clinical, research-based, administrative, or in medical education, it is meaningful. Our RYSE team cares about your well-being and remains dedicated to building and maintaining a community that supports our why. We always want to hear from you. You can reach out to us anytime at emorydomryse@emory.edu to connect with our RYSE team. Sincerely, Kimberly Manning, MD, MACP, FAAP HEALTH EQUITY DAY ![]() RYSE Health Equity Day The Department of Medicine’s RYSE Council, in partnership with the Office of Health Equity at Grady, looks forward to hosting the 5th annual Health Equity Day focused on the theme, "Community Partnerships and Health Equity." ![]() For the first time, Health Equity Day will be a hybrid event, engaging communities both virtually via Zoom and in person at the Trauma Auditorium at Grady Hospital!
