Teams were competitive-- Peter Blucher While there weren't any trophies for Tāmaki Makaurau at last weekend's 50th annual Aotearoa National Bowls tournament hosted by the Tainui Rohe (region), it was a fantastic weekend of competition and camaraderie. The Tāne (men’s) teams showcased resilience with four reaching the last 16. Raika Gregory's team (with Jamie Hill, Phil Taylor and Tony Marumaru) was the top qualifier, closely followed by Sam Brack (with Rom Talbot, Nev Rodgers and Richie Rodgers), and Adam Blucher (with Kaylin Huwyler, Ryan Hill and Liam Hill), who also went unbeaten. They were joined by Peter Blucher (with Pat Curtis, Allan Peers and Willie Pimm) with four wins from five games. The ultimate victory went to Ray Lovie's team from Te Whanganui-A-Tara, triumphing over Marty Hammond's Te Waipounamu team in the Final. In the Wāhine (women's) section, Aggie Motu (with Maria Smith, Sandra Taylor and Lavinia Ruka), and Chingi Tate (with Sharon Perry, Wendy Shaddick and Maria Taka) displayed strong performances, though no Auckland teams reached the semis. The Women's title was secured by Gaylene Kanawa's Tainui team. Ngā mihi nui ki a Tainui, e tino pai tō mahi.
