MEMBER BENEFITS: Bringing Value to Your Membership
Vermont State University at Castleton Internship Program - Chamber and Economic Development of the Rutland Region (CEDRR) and Vermont State University (VTSU) are collaborating to expand career development opportunities for VTSU student interns. CEDRR works with VTSU to support the cultivation of professional settings and/or networking options for students who wish to be involved in an internship or early
career opportunities throughout Rutland County. The goal of this innovative partnership is to encourage local businesses and non-profits to foster a professional environment where employers offer mentoring and best business practices in establishments that students otherwise would not have been exposed to. VTSU students bring knowledge, creativity, and a strong work ethic to any business or non-profit, and become an integral part of the Rutland County community. During hours of operation, if a local business or non-profit does not have space to house an intern, The Hub CoWorks will support
interns with hot desks and meeting space. Interns will be expected to gain approval from the Director of Career Development and Innovation and must sign a Hub CoWorks membership agreement to utilize the space. For more information about VTSU’s internship program, please contact Chrispin White at chrispin@rutlandeconomy.com. Email Chrispin here →
The Village Trust Initiative Launches
The Village Trust Initiative is a new program offering expertise and funding to help 20 small towns create or bolster a local community trust organization and take on a transformational revitalization project in the village. These projects could be the revitalization of a general store, the creation of a community center, the improvement of accessibility of an old town hall, or the renovation of a large historic home into village-scale housing. There are many possibilities, so bring your creativity and vision to the table! The Village Trust Initiative is offered by the Preservation Trust of Vermont (PTV) in partnership with the Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD) and the Vermont Community Foundation (VCF). Drawing on many years of experience supporting community and economic development projects in Vermont. To participate in this program your community must: - Be a town of fewer than 2,500 residents based on the 2020 Decennial Census.
- Have an existing community trust organization or the desire to build one.
- Be interested in a revitalization project utilizing a historic resource or site in an established village environment. Greenspace and trails are not eligible.
- Have or expect to have site control.
- Have or expect to have endorsement by the Selectboard to participate in the program (a motion in Selectboard meeting minutes or a letter indicating support).
The Initiative’s first year will support approximately seven communities. Selected communities will receive support with community engagement, pre-development technical assistance, consulting/contracted
services, and substantial implementation funding. The selection process begins with the completion of a simple intake form due Friday, May 24, 2024, by 4 p.m. A select number from the pool of interested communities will be invited to submit a full application. Learn more and register →
