Diabetes and Dementia: Guidance on Practical Management, which has been produced by Trend Diabetes, includes a series of recommendations to promote a consistent, high-quality approach towards caring for people with diabetes and dementia. A commonly prescribed rheumatoid arthritis drug can suppress the progression of type 1 diabetes, according to a world-first clinical trial by researchers at St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, Australia. Led by Professors Thomas Kay and Helen Thomas, the trial has shown that a drug called baricitinib can safely and effectively preserve the body’s own insulin production and suppress the progression of type 1 diabetes in people who initiated treatment within 100 days of diagnosis. Latest guidance on how to manage foot infections in people living with diabetes is now available for healthcare professionals. The International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) and Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) have released the guideline to improve the diagnosis and therapeutic management of foot infections among people with diabetes.
