Exciting upgrades rolling in for one of Frankston City's oldest sports clubsCarrum Bowling Club at Seaford is set to receive a brand-new bowling green, shade sails, and more as part of a $300,000 upgrade project! The club, which was opened by Prime Minister Stanley Bruce in 1924, is located at the stunning Keast Park overlooking Port Phillip Bay. Frankston City Deputy Mayor Cr Steffie Conroy and Member for Carrum the Hon Sonya Kilkenny MP recently visited the club to celebrate the start of works. Here’s what’s coming in February:
This project is fully funded through the Victorian Government’s Community Sport and Recreation Grant Program and delivered by Frankston City Council. Serving up an ace for Belvedere Park Tennis Club! The Australian Open might be over but there’s always time for tennis at Seaford now that Belvedere Park Tennis Club has lights on five of its nine courts. The LED lighting upgrade was completed thanks to a $130,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund – Community Sports Lighting Scheme, which was matched by Council with another $130,000. Club members celebrated the upgrade this week with Cr Sue Baker and Member for Carrum, the Hon Sonya Kilkenny MP. The upgrade means the club has been able to extend the use of the courts and offer night tennis opportunities. This project was identified in Council’s Frankston City Tennis Action Plan, which provides recommendations to ensure a sustainable balance of tennis facilities within the municipality. The Belvedere Park Tennis Club is a member-based community club and has been operating for almost 60 years. Let's make our beaches beautiful this Clean Up Australia DayFrankston Beach Patrol and Seaford Beach Patrol will be hosting local clean up events this Clean Up Australia Day: 3198 Seaford Beach Patrol Frankston Beach Patrol See you there! Have your say: Skye Local Area Traffic Management PlanCouncil is undertaking a Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) study in the Skye LATM Precinct, to improve traffic management and road safety within the area. This will build on information we have already collected during our recent Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan engagement to focus on the Skye LATM area — bound by Hall Road to the north, McCormicks Road to the West, Ballarto Road to the south, and Western Port Highway to the east. All community members who have ideas, thoughts or concerns relating to traffic, road safety, pedestrian or cyclist issues are encouraged to give us your feedback by Tuesday 4 March. Reporting long grassWe're always working hard to ensure that the maintenance of our grassy areas is carried out in a timely manner, with mowing occurring every four weeks on a scheduled program. We understand that sometimes grass might grow quicker than we can cut it, so we appreciate when community members flag overgrown areas via Snap Send Solve or our Report an issue webpage. It is important to remember that not all grassy areas within the municipality are owned and managed by Council, some of them are the responsibility of VicRoads and the state government. Dog owners asked to help protect ovalsSporting grounds across Frankston City have been facing some damage recently, with dogs digging up the playing surface. This issue is causing extra work for our maintenance team and affecting other groups, like local sports clubs, who depend on ovals for their activities. To help protect these spaces, dog owners are kindly asked to keep their pets under control and prevent any digging. This small effort can make a big difference in keeping the ovals — and the rest of our popular reserves — in good condition for everyone to enjoy. If you spot a dog causing damage, please report it by calling 1300 322 322 Let’s all do our part to keep our ovals in top shape! Have your say on two play space upgradesWhat do a flying saucer, hoops for ball sports, and trees have in common? They’re all elements we’re proposing to include in upgraded play spaces at Heritage Reserve, Skye and Ferndale Reserve, Frankston. Both upgrades are designed to provide a broader range of play elements, improve access and inclusion, and include more tree planting and improved landscaping, part of our Play Strategy 2021. Check out the concept designs and have your say on these upgrades by 3pm, Wednesday 5 March
New play spaces on the way in Skye and FrankstonLocals can look forward to more fun play opportunities by mid-2025 when we complete play space upgrades at Heysen Reserve in Skye, and Lucerne Reserve in Frankston. Heysen Reserve upgrade includes a trampoline, accessible carousel, double swing unit, basket swing, two new play units (combination and junior) and two spring rockers. Shade sails will provide extra comfort on sunny days, and new seating and picnic tables will offer great spots to relax. Beautiful landscaping will complete the park's refreshed look. Over at Lucerne Reserve, a new basket swing, toddler and junior swings, and a nature play area will encourage outdoor fun for the whole family. A new climbing rope feature and upgraded basketball space will also be added. New seating and additional trees will make the park even more inviting. The play space at Sandfield Reserve, Carrum Downs, is also undergoing a major upgrade as part of the Sandfield Reserve Precinct Revitalisation Project funded by Council and the Australian and Victorian Governments. This will include public toilets near the play space. Meet our Community Connectors
Crowds gathered at Frankston Station earlier this month to meet the Community Connectors team — a successful collaboration between Frankston City Council, Metro Trains Melbourne, and South East Community Links (SECL) that sees trained community workers supporting those needing help at Frankston Train Station and the Young Street precinct. SECL’s Community Connectors are trained in a variety of social support skills, providing on-the-spot assistance, offering advice, and coordinating referrals to local services related to drug and alcohol issues, mental health, homelessness, and family violence. The program, which forms part of Council’s Young Street Action Plan, follows a successful pilot at Dandenong Station that has helped hundreds of vulnerable community members who frequent the station precinct and face complex challenges, including mental health issues, substance abuse, poverty, family violence, and housing insecurity. Make sure to say hello to the Community Connectors if you see them out and about. Australian Sand Sculpting Championships5–27 April, 10am–5pm, Frankston Waterfront The sand is returning to its home on the Frankston Waterfront this April – when Financial support for organisations – final days to submit your project!Financial support from Council means organisations like Mums Supporting Families in Need (MSFIN) can continue to support vulnerable community members across Frankston City. Most recently, we provided this Seaford-based charity with $16,831 to deliver a volunteer engagement event where local businesses and community groups packed food hampers for families in need. After their recent warehouse flood, we were also able to provide a further $5,000 to support them in recovering from the damage. This is just one of hundreds of charities, clubs, social enterprises, and businesses that Council has funded to help provide important services, activities, equipment, and infrastructure across the City. Providing input into our 2025-26 Annual Budget is just one way your organisation can seek financial support from Council. We’d love to hear your input by 5pm on February 20. Lithium-ion batteries are a type of rechargeable battery often found in laptops, mobile phones, e-bikes, e-scooters, power banks and power tools. Make sure to correctly handle and store any products containing these batteries, including storing in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. Buy replacement batteries from a reputable supplier and never use damaged batteries. Never charge your devices on a flammable surface, such as carpet or beds.
