Good morning,
Please see below two important updates about products that our testing has confirmed as containing the presence of 20-hydroxyecdysone – a substance that is prohibited at all times under the Rules of Racing. These are:
-
Hemorex Paste (TRM)
-
Lung XL (BRL)
We will continue to keep you updated on any developments, but in the meantime would recommend following the advice provided below.
In general, we would always advise that trainers only use accredited supplements that comply with the British Equestrian Trade Association’s (BETA) NOPS scheme. More information about this is available here.
If you have any questions, please contact: anti-doping@britishhorseracing.com.
Hemorex Paste (TRM)
Hemorex Paste (TRM) is marketed as a supplement designed to support the pulmonary function of horses, and contains a natural source of Vitamin C.
Our laboratory, LGC, has performed analysis on a sample of Hemorex paste and confirmed the presence of 20-hydroxyecdysone – a substance prohibited at all times.
Our testing has also confirmed that one of the stated ingredients, Arctostaphylos uva ursi, contains the active chemical arbutin, which is a Category B Prohibited substance.
We therefore advise that trainers do not use Hemorex paste.
We have tried to contact the manufacturer, but have not yet received a response. As such, we strongly recommend that you do not use the product, given the potentially heightened risk of an adverse analytical finding.
Lung XL (BRL)
We have contacted you previously about this product, which our testing confirmed to contain the presence of 20-hydroxyecdysone.
Despite ongoing communication with the manufacturer, we have not yet received any additional information as to whether the source of the substance has been identified or rectified.
Our advice is that trainers do not use Lung XL.
It is also important to be aware of the increased risk of an adverse analytical finding if using any of the products manufactured by this company.
Again, we will keep you updated on any developments.
