Hello ProteinMB Associate,
ProteinMB closed off June with a Water & Wastewater Forum for protein processors and enjoyed attending BAM’s Summer Mixer event. This month’s activities have focused on preparing What We Heard Reports from the ProteinMB facilitated June engagements, launching ProteinMB’s new digital content, ongoing meetings with the protein ecosystem, including meetings with FCC and North Forge, to identify collaboration opportunities, and planning for upcoming Roundtables, Working Groups, Events, and the launch of Sustainable Protein Consortiums. ProteinMB hosted hole 4 at the Made in Manitoba Golf Tournament partnered with Unger Meats as a protein sampler. We featured a photobooth to celebrate working together and promoted the opportunity and benefits of joining ProteinMB as an Associate
We are looking forward to the upcoming launch of the inaugural Sustainable Protein Consortium on August 14th where protein processors will get together to exchange best practices, learn from peers, and offer fresh perspectives for problem solving. Stay tuned for upcoming What We Heard reports, new engagement pathways, an updated ProteinMB website, and more!

Maple Leaf Foods plans to split into two independent public companies
Maple Leaf Foods recently announced that they will be spinning of it's pork business into a separate entity. Maple Leaf Foods will retain a 19.9 per cent ownership position in the newly formed pork company, the name of which will be announced in the coming months, the company said.

Canada-Manitoba Job Grant program
- The Canada-Manitoba Job Grant program, which helps companies subsidize their training costs, will be accepting applications beginning July 24, 2024.
Innovation Booster - Canadian Food Innovation Network (CFIN)
The Innovation Booster provides flexible and rapid support on a cost-shared basis to enable Small- or Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to advance their food innovation and research outcomes. A SME is defined as a business with 499 or fewer employees and less than $50 million in gross revenues.
Sustainable Agriculture Partnerships (SCAP) funding Opportunities are open for intake
- The Food Safety and Traceability Program is designed to assist Manitoba agri-food and agri-product sectors in adopting and improving food safety and traceability practices.
- Livestock Predation Prevention Program: Producers with a paid livestock predation claim under the Manitoba Wildlife Damage Compensation Program in 2021 or later are eligible to apply.
- Pre-Approved Livestock Predation Prevention Equipment and Guardian Dogs – Accepting rebate claims until Dec. 20, 2024.
