Your voice matters:
Join MS Australia's Lived Experience Expert Panel 

Are you passionate about driving positive change for Australians living with MS? MS Australia is currently recruiting for their Lived Experience Expert Panel (LEEP).

The initiative will gather expert insights from the MS Community and ensure a strong, authentic voice guides MS Australia's work in advocacy, research, policy, education and awareness. 

Successful applicants will be selected for their ability to help achieve the goals of the LEEP and provide meaningful feedback on MS Australia’s policies, research, and communications.

Rising prevalence of MS across Australia 

MS Australia supported researchers combined multiple research sources to calculate the number of Australians living with MS, which shows an increase prevalence over time, both nationally and in most states and territories. This has implications for the resources needed to treat and manage MS today and into the future.

Lifestyle habits to improve brain health

The brain’s ability to compensate for damage, known as “brain reserve”, can help protect against MS-related decline. A recent Australian study, gathered expert advice to identify lifestyle changes and strategies to improve brain health for people with MS. Next step of this study is to seek global agreement from experts on these recommendations, to ensure they are widely accepted and applicable.

Effects of elevated cholesterol on nerves 

A lab model using stem cells derived from the skin of people with PMS was developed to investigate how increased cholesterol production may contribute to nerve damage. The study found that elevated cholesterol levels could have harmful effects on nerves. However, using a cholesterol-lowering drug showed potential in reducing these effects, suggesting a promising new treatment approach for PMS.

Australian MS Longitudinal Study 

The AMSLS collects real life data from people living with MS. It is a survey-based research study that has been running since 2001. The data collected is used by policy makers and MS medical and support services to create positive change and improve the lives of people with MS. Take part in this study to share your experience and shape MS research.

PLATYPUS

PLATYPUS adaptive clinical trial will seek to reverse neurological damage caused by progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS).

The first of its kind in Australia, the flexible nature of the multi-arm, multi-stage adaptive design will allow researchers to investigate the potential benefits of several existing medications simultaneously. Register your interest to take part.

Personalised Digital Nutrition Program for People with MS – Lived Experience Advisory Panel

The MS Nutrition Research Program, based at Deakin University and Curtin University, investigates links between diet and MS. Researchers have worked with the MS community to co-design a digital nutrition program, with next steps to develop clinical trials. 

Researchers are looking to recruit people with MS to join their Lived Experience Consumer Panel. The Panel will be involved in the development and testing of a digital nutrition education program, Eating Well with MS that is tailored for people with MS.

This free and accessible community event, brought to you by MSWA Outreach and Accommodation, will have something for everyone, with beautiful hand-crafted stalls, delicious food, entertainment and door prizes. 

This will also be an opportunity to tour our residential accommodation facility, offering modern units for independent living with access to 24/7 support.
