Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at The Orchard School! Executive Principal updateHello everyone, We’ve seen some amazing achievement in Spring term with learners making huge steps in their social and academic progress, over £1000 raised for children in need and the RCPCA and some amazing work in the community and work experience. Please visit Facebook or click here for our latest news stories. In my first full term as Principal, I have been so impressed with how our learners want to help and support others. I have also learned the importance of our relationship with parents, and would like to thank you all for your support in what we are trying to achieve for every young person. We were very pleased with the outcome of our recent monitoring visit - you should have all received a letter, but just in case, please click here to view the report. I would also like to introduce you to our new HEART values statement that was designed with our experiences as staff and learners; We believe in putting the learner at the HEART of every decision. Working with a love and passion to be the champion every child deserves. Heroes – We will be our own and each other’s biggest hero and champion. Empathy – We will show respect for other people’s feelings and thoughts. Ambitious – We will strive to be the best we can be and support others to do the same. Reflective – We will always look to improve, looking at ourselves first. Together – We will work as a team to support and look after each other. From everyone here at Orchard, we would like to wish you a restful Easter break and remind you that learners will return on Tuesday the 18th. Should you need anything over the Easter our office will be staffed from 9 – 2pm I'm very pleased to share with you that some of our Key Stage 4 pupils are going to be taking on The Peaks in June, to raise funds for their charity of choice - The Blue Cross - to raise much-needed funds for animals. The challenge is 4 miles in total, and the students will be undertaking various practical and theory sessions in preparation for the event. Kind regards, Steve Broderick Executive Principal NELSSP TournamentLast week, Orchard school entered a North East Lincs School Sport Partnership (NELSSP) tournament for the first time. We went to Cambridge Park Academy to take part in a boccia tournament. Not only did our learners show outstanding sportsmanship throughout, but we finished 1st and 2nd in both leagues! We would like to say a special thanks to the older learners at Cambridge Park, who umpired expertly. We are very proud of everyone that took part - hopefully the start of many more! Music clubOne of our new tutors, Louis, is hoping to start up a new music club for our learners. Here he is pictured with a guitar that was very kindly donated by our good friend The Canoe River Cleaner. If anyone has any instruments lying around that they no longer use, we could certainly make good use of them! Thank you in advance for your support. Fundraising for Comic ReliefA mixture of our KS3 and KS4 learners took part in raising much-needed funds for this worthy cause earlier this month. We had a variety of different games including the card game 'higher or lower', table top curling, a marble game, pick a stick, pin the red nose on Stu and even some crafts. We had blondies and brownies for sale as well as Red Nose Day themed biscuits . We also had a glitter tattoo station on offer for our learners, plus they had the choice to dress up in red or wear their personalised t-shirts that some of them had made in their PLP session this week. All learners and staff took part and our small site, with 18 learners on reward, managed to raise an incredible £145.43. Well done everyone! Support workshop for parents & carersWe are sharing this workshop that is taking place at Grimsby Town Hall next month. A very useful resource if you are just starting out on your educational support journey. Royal Court Care HomeClass 4 visited Royal Court Care Home again at the beginning of the month for their PLP lesson. Our learners discussed, planned and shopped for Easter activities for the residents to take part in. We played games and everyone loved the parachute activities. The care home bought drinks and snacks for our learners, which was so kind of them. Thank you for looking after us! Visit from care home residentsJust before the end of term, staff and residents of the Royal Court Care Home visited Sargon way. We had tea, biscuits and some creative activities. We loved being able to host them and are very grateful of our partnership with them. 22/23 term datesYou can view our term dates by clicking on the button below. |
