Playing Programme Committee established and applications are openBowls Auckland has relied on a dedicated group of volunteers, known as the Operations Committee, to govern tournaments. On behalf of Auckland's bowling community, we extend our thanks to all past and present members who have enabled thousands of bowlers to get out and enjoy centre events each season. In recent weeks, Bowls Auckland completed a review to identify improvements for delivering targeted and high-quality events to our current and future members. This review considered environmental changes, including the growing need for paid administrators to handle delivery, while maximising the time, input, and guidance from volunteers to maintain a community-focused approach. The weather was perfect, setting the stage for a spirited competition in the 2 Bowls AC Triples format, played across our two greens. A special shout-out, to Graeme, John, and Adele for running an excellent tournament. Adele’s delicious scones and Fila’s superb banana cake were the highlights of the refreshments. Congratulations to the winners, Dave Hilson, Darrin McLay & Merv Malpas from Beach Haven and a big thank you to the organisers, volunteers, and our sponsors, Sibuns Funeral Directors. Most importantly, thanks to everyone who joined us and made the day memorable! Good luck to all the bowlers competing in the 1-5 Year Singles this weekend, the last 1-5 Year discipline for this season! With 76 men and 40 women competing, we are excited to witness the skills honed throughout the year. Stay updated with event info and results here... King’s ACT at Glen Eden-- Darren Schroeder Organisers turned up bright and early to set up the green at Glen Eden, joined by eager participants ready to face the competition and the weather! The day began with an overcast sky, which lingered, only giving way to a few drizzle drops before the sun finally broke through, warming up the end of the event. Teams from Bowls Orewa, Rocky Nook Bowls, Carlton Cornwall, Blockhouse Bay and Glen Eden competed, with some composite teams adding an interesting dynamic. Notably, one composite team, featuring two social bowlers and one experienced player performed admirably. The competition was fierce, with three teams each securing 3.5 wins. It all came down to the differential in ends, with the top spot decided by a mere point. First place was claimed by Wayne Harris, Alan McQuoid, and Ray Brown from Orewa (top pic). Glen Eden's own Sean, Steve 'Catman' and Teresa Cassidy took a well-earned second place (bottom pic). Kohi’s new artificial green: ready for action!-- Jim Jericevich The Kohimarama Bowling Club is thrilled with the completion of its new artificial green, thanks to the Tiger Turf team. Despite a Covid-related delay, the project was finished in just three weeks with the help of favourable weather. Initial speed tests show a consistent 17.2 across the green, with further stretch enhancements planned for the summer. Watch our progress video here...
