Would You Like a New Shop Front? Grants of 75% are available as part of the Cathedral Quarter High Street Heritage Action Zone and Gloucester City Council is encouraging the repair and replacement of several shop fronts in Westgate Street. The work will be funded by the City Council in partnership with Historic England to 75% of the total cost. The aim of the work is to re-instate lost character to the area, as part of a wider scheme to rejuvenate the Cathedral Quarter through its heritage. Our recent survey asking for comments on what would make the street scene better, showed that local people would like to see shop fronts re-instated that reflect the historic character of the building. It is by far the most popular area seen as in need of improvement. An architect is being appointed to draw up proposals to show what your new shop front could look like and to assist you to secure the necessary planning consent. You will only have to find 25% of the cost. This offer is time limited and will not be available in future years, so it is vital to act now. Get in touch with Cathedral Quarter to discuss your new shop front via email: cathedralquarter@gloucester.gov.uk BID Levy BillsBID levy bills for 2021-2022 have been sent this week, you may have received it already. Here’s a brief reminder about us and what we are delivering. Gloucester Business Improvement District is managed, through Four Gates of Gloucester, by a volunteer board of directors representing various sizes and sectors of business in Gloucester. This means that the local businesses control the BID and have a direct say in how the levy collected is spent for the benefit of the business in the area and the city. The fund collected is ring-fenced and invested back into business and Gloucester. Gloucester BID supports initiatives to help business, run and support campaigns and events that promote Gloucester. Engagement and conversation with our business members is fundamental to our work. We will communicate openly and transparently with and liaise proactively with members. Gloucester BID, the board and management team, remain proactive in our outlook and committed to supporting business. In this financial BID year we will remain reactive to local business need and deliver and support projects across the city. Gloucester BID works in close partnership and collaborates with organisations, groups and businesses across the city ensuring a resilient and strong city. Emily Gibbon, BID manager, will be happy to discuss the BID and its priorities with any BID members. During this year, our final year of this term, it is crucial that you, as levy payers engage and feedback to the BID, the directors and partners. If you are keen to be more involved with the BID, please email info@gloucesterbid.org.uk.
