It’s always a real privilege to tell you about the upcoming events and new happenings in our district. There’s a great selection of exciting things to do over the next month, so check out the listings below and plan an outing to remember.
It's funny how things come in 'threes'; over the past few weeks, two new theatres have opened and a new film society has formed, which is fabulous news for the arts.
Central Cinema in Alexandra has finally completed its new multi-purpose theatre, which is part of the Central Stories complex and they are excited to show it off. It's a very similar story in Clyde with the opening of the new Clyde Cinema situated beside the Clyde Bar and Bistro. This boutique cinema is fitted out beautifully and has just started to show movies. There is also a group of film buffs in Cromwell who have formed the Cromwell Film Society. Their screenings are at A Drop of Red in Cromwell.
If you are a budding poet you may like to consider signing-up for a poetry workshop. Wanaka’s ‘Poetic Justice’ is offering a fantastic opportunity to glean wisdom from one of New Zealand’s best poets, Glenn Colquhoun.
For other options check out our workshop page to see the interesting classes on offer as a creative vent and new learning experience.
Clyde’s biggest day of the year is on Easter Sunday, at the end of March. Wine and food lovers are invited to flock into the heritage precinct of Sunderland St for a golden day of convivial relaxation and socialising. Clyde’s Wine and Food Harvest Festival starts at 10.30am on Sunday 31st March and runs through until 5pm.
Easter art exhibitions abound in Cromwell, Clyde and Wanaka with each art society displaying works over the long weekend.
Everyone in Central Otago/Lakes District will have received a programme from the Southern Lakes Festival of Colour in the mail and hopefully you will be able to enjoy some of the amazing events that take place from 16th -21st April. Check out their website to book www.festivalofcolour.co.nz
