What's On in the Arts in Central and Surrounds..

Matt Joe Gow performing at The Screaming Roosters as part of his New Zealand Tour. We are very lucky to be hosting Matt Joe Gow, supported by Arrowtown based talent Leanne Malcolm (Lumsden Calling) and Sam Ross (The Feelers) at Central Stories this weekend. This show is part of Matts final New Zealand tour before he heads back to Australia to finish his new album. Matt grew up in Dunedin and surrounded by music, he was encouraged to pick up a guitar from an early age. After travelling the world Matt moved to Melbourne, formed 'The Dead Leaves' and in 2009 released his debut record 'The Messenger', produced by multi-Aria award-winner Nash Chambers, and featuring contributions from Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil, and Australian country guitarist Bill Chambers. Matt has supported acts such as Chris Isaak, Justin Townes Earle, James Reyne, Jimmy Barnes, John Butler, and many more significant musicians. It is such a treat to have him in Central Otago so get along and support him! Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from Central
Stories Museum & Art Gallery now. Doors open at 6.30pm, music starts at 7.00. There will be a cash bar available and a light supper. Also on this weekend is the wonderful LUMA which showcases a curated collection of stunning light sculptures and installations with a focus on transformation of space, public interaction, performance, art, culture and education. Entry is only $5 and this southern light project will be on show from the
4th - 7th of June. Cromwell’s 'Light Up Winter' happens again in July. Light up Winter transforms The Mall into a wonderland of fairy lights, magical light installations, and decorated shop fronts. The evening offers live music, fire dancers, roaming street performers and a vibrant night market with food, drink, and craft stalls. A mass release of lanterns light up the night sky and provide a visual feast and some
spectacular photo opportunities. As part of the celebrations this year organisers are offering the community an opportunity to enter two art competitions; Light up your Hat and Wish upon a Star. An Astrophotography Workshop, organised by the people of
Winterstellar, will be held at Scott Base Vineyard as part of the Light up Winter event. Scroll down to see more of What's On in the arts in Central.
