Laura Brown, a senior lecturer in nutrition, delves into the research to provide an answer. It turns out that pepper has been used as a medicine since ancient times, and modern science seems to confirm its health-giving potential. Black pepper contains a powerful antioxidant called piperine that may protect us from arthritis, heart disease and certain cancers. But, as they say: more research is needed.
