About 24 million Africans aged between 15 and 35 are unemployed – that’s one in 22 young people. And the numbers are projected to keep rising. Yet, employment trends show countries are struggling to get young people into productive activities – and even when they do, about 40% of those who find jobs continue to live in extreme poverty. Katharina Fenz is part of a team tracking real-time insights into young Africans’ employment status. She explains why this data paints an important picture.
