More than 150,000 died and 10,000 went missing when a huge underwater earthquake set off a massive tsunami on Dec. 26, 2004. Twenty years later, Indonesia is still rebuilding Aceh. Major countries like the US, Australia, Japan and foreign aid organisations have disbursed billions of dollars to help the province get back on its own feet. However, last year, the province was still listed among the poorest provinces on Sumatra island, with a poverty rate reaching almost 15%, higher than the national average of 9.36%. The Conversation Indonesia is calling academics and researchers focusing on the topic to send their pitches so we can publish your piece in our special edition of the 20th anniversary of the Aceh Tsunami. The Conversation Indonesia will live fact-check statements from candidates with our expert panels on Feb. 4. We will share the fact-check analysis on our social media during the debate. To join the panel, please scroll down below to get more information.
Warmest, Ika Krismantari
To anticipate the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation during the campaign, The Conversation Indonesia (TCID) has set up a fact-checking expert panel of our authors. Recently, the initiative has received support from The Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) with a grant from the Open Society Foundation to collaborate with two other reputable media - Tempo and Kompas - to amplify the project's impact. If you are an academic or researcher, you can join the panel by registering via this link.
