Newsletter 19 - November 28, 2025

From the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

As we move into the final month of the school year, there’s a noticeable shift in the rhythm around Subiaco Primary School. Classrooms are still buzzing with learning, teachers are finalising end-of-year reports, and leadership teams and staff are underway in planning for 2026.

It’s also the time of year when our students start to feel the effects of a very full term. They’re tired, they’re working hard, and just as you may see at home, they need a little extra patience and encouragement. Despite the fatigue, they continue to show enormous resilience. We are incredibly proud of how far they have come and of the growth each child has made this year.

This final stretch is a valuable time for reflection, celebration and ensuring every student finishes the year feeling supported, known and proud of themselves.

Instrumental Music Concert – Perth Modern School
What a wonderful evening we shared at our Annual Instrumental Music Concert on Wednesday night at Perth Modern. It was fantastic to see so many families come together to celebrate our young musicians.

Our students have shown commitment and persistence throughout the year and their hard work truly came together on stage. We enjoyed performances across violins, violas, double bass, flutes, clarinets, trumpets and cellos, and every student should feel proud of what they achieved.

A heartfelt thankyou to our talented IMSS staff:
• Helen Milner – String Ensemble, Violin & Viola
• Kristy Malcolm – Double Bass
• Ela Kwasny – Flute
• Kiara Wild – Clarinet
• Lindsay Timms – Brass
• Alita Monkhurst – Cello

And a special thank-you to our Music teacher, Frank Cianfagna, for coordinating the event so seamlessly.

Edu-Dance
The music drifting from the undercover area is hard to miss, and I’m doing my best not to peek so I don’t spoil the surprise! Students are rehearsing with huge enthusiasm, and the excitement is really building.

Junior Playground Update
A major milestone is approaching. On Monday, I will attend the Practical Completion meeting for our new junior playground. Once this step is signed off, the temporary fencing will come down and the playground will officially open. We are very close now, and the students are eagerly counting down the days.

Public School Review
On Wednesday 2 December, I will be off-site participating in a Public School Review with a School and Principal Review Director. This work provides valuable professional insight and contributes to strengthening school improvement across our system.

Final Assembly for 2024
Our final whole-school assembly for the year will be held on Thursday 4 December. Everyone is warmly invited. Our Year 3 classes, M1 and M2, will be hosting and performing and they are very excited to finish the year on a high note.

Thank you for your continued support as we head into the final weeks of term. It is a busy time, but also a joyful one, and we look forward to finishing the year together with PRIDE.

Years 4–6 SA Wellbeing and Engagement Survey

Last term, our Years 4–6 students took part in our annual South Australian Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The wellbeing indicators we receive represent potential levers for school improvement and may provide our staff with information about the Personal and Social Capabilities described in the Australian Curriculum. I would like to share some key longitudinal results from over the last 3 years.

AT SCHOOL

  • The term ‘school belonging’ is improving with students indicating that they are feeling more connected and valued at school
  • Students feel there is less physical bullying
  • School climate improving – overall tone of the school environment, including the way teachers and students interact and how students treat each other

Digging Deeper – a major focus

  • Students noted that they feel less of a connection to adults (a student having at least one adult who provides support to them)
  • Verbal (3.3% of each year level) and social (3.2% of each year level) reported weekly bullying
  • 31% of girls in Year 6 reported low emotional wellbeing

AT HOME

  • 89% of students report eating breakfast every day
  • More students feel like they are getting a better sleep
  • 79 students read for fun 5+ days a week and 49 students for fun 3-4 days a week

Digging Deeper – a focus for home

  • 21% of students in the hour before you go to sleep, do you use an electronic device (for example mobile phone, iPad, tablet, PC, game console, TV, music player) every day of the week
  • 42 students use a phone or the Internet to text or chat with friends and/or go on social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat for 5+ days a week

The information gathered gives us valuable insights that help Subiaco Primary and its community to continue to support the wellbeing and engagement of all our students now and into the future.

P&C News

WOW November you have delivered the good times!

We would like to thank the entire school community for helping make 2025 such a successful year for the P&C.
A huge thanks to our Subiaco families, staff and children who attended events, volunteered their time and paid their voluntary contributions. The P&C and what it contributes to the school is only as strong as the people that support it - without you, none of this could happen.  If you would like to find out more about the P&C, what we do and how you can get involved, take a look at our page on the school's website.

🌈Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🌈
Our Family Colour Fun Run on Saturday 9 November was an absolute blast — a bright, joy-filled explosion of colour, laughter, and community spirit!

A huge thank you to every single volunteer who helped make the magic happen. Whether you were setting up, manning stations during the run, throwing colour like a pro, corralling kids, packing away, cheering kids on, or helping behind the scenes — we could not have done it without you! Your time, energy, and enthusiasm turned this into another awesome afternoon for our school community.

Events like this are what make our school special, and we are so grateful for the support, smiles, and hands-on help that kept everything running smoothly.

And....

With music playing, kids splashing, families relaxing, and plenty of food and fun to go around, the pool was buzzing with energy from start to finish. Your enthusiasm and support made the event feel truly special.

We’re so glad you could join us, and we can’t wait to see you back at the pool throughout the summer. Here’s to many more warm afternoons and cool dips! ☀️🏊‍♀️💦
