Updates to Categorisation Guidelines and guidance

We’ve updated our online categorisation guide to reflect the latest Industrial Chemicals Categorisation Guidelines (version 3), effective 24 September 2024.

Changes impact steps 4.4 and 5.4 of the guide. We've also expanded the list of chemicals with high hazards for categorisation.

For details, see our news article

Listed introductions: improved guidance

We have revised Step 0: Introductions that are categorised as listed in the online categorisation guide to make it clearer and easier to follow. We’ve also added a page about obligations after categorisation for listed introductions.

For details, see our news article

Compliance matters

Post-introduction declarations due by 30 November 2024

If you worked out that your introduction is in the exempted category and you manufactured or imported the chemical for the first time between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024, you must submit a one-off post-introduction declaration (PID) if your introduction is one of these:

  • polymer of low concern
  • low-concern biological polymer
  • categorised as very low risk for human health and the environment
See more if this applies to you

Heads up! Draft evaluations publishing early October

Keep an eye out for the draft evaluation statements on our website and have your say.
