$50K OneFortyOne Community Capacity Building Grants Opening Soon

Applications are invited for charitable projects that build community capacity via the OneFortyOne Grants opening 15th February 2018. OneFortyOne Plantations have increased the annual funding for this grant round to $50K enabling more valuable projects to be supported. Projects should be pitched between $5K and $20K and grow the Limestone Coast community. Application forms and more information is available via the Stand Like Stone website by clicking here.

Inaugural scholarship given to benefit those who have experienced foster care

The inaugural LE & NC Myers Educational Scholarship was granted as part of the recent Stand Like Stone scholarship round. Founding donors Kaye and Bob Dalgarno established the scholarship to enable opportunities for youth who have experienced foster care, kinship care and government care. Kaye became aware of the need through her work with the Pine Tree Quilters group, who have donated over 200 quilts to the ac.care foster care service.

The LE & NC Myers educational scholarship is named in memory of Kaye’s parents, who lived in Mount Gambier during the war years and gave their family many opportunities. Stand Like Stone and ac.care will work together to make youth aware of the scholarships and target individuals and families that will derive the greatest benefit from the funding.

"ac.care is delighted to learn of the inaugural award of the LE & NC Myers Educational Scholarship.  The opportunity to access vocational or tertiary education is an important step for young people towards their future. This includes young people who have left state care. We are fortunate to have foster families to care for the young people and to have an organisation like Stand Like Stone and donors such as the Myers who take an interest in providing financial opportunities to support young people in our community. We congratulate the first recipient and wish them success in pursuing their educational goals.” Shane Maddocks, CEO ac.care

The general public is welcome to make donations to the LE & NC Myers educational scholarship. Donations are tax deductible and can be made here by using the drop down and selecting the "LE & NC Myers educational scholarship."

A quilt made by Kaye Dalgrano, pictured below, was given to the inaugural recipient.

Australian Doctor's Orchestra to perform in Mt Gambier

The 2018 Australian Doctor's Orchestra concert will be held in Mount Gambier on Sunday 10th June 2018 at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.

The Australian Doctors Orchestra (ADO) is a unique national fellowship of medical professionals who are also classically trained musicians. Since their first concert in 1993, the orchestra has played a concert every year and in every state, using each occasion to raise funds for charity.

In June the Australian Doctor's Orchestra will venture to Mount Gambier for the first time.  Up to 100 medical professionals from all around Australia share two days of final rehearsals culminating in a performance on the Sunday afternoon.

The Mt Gambier Concert will be performed under the baton of maestro Nicholas Braithwaite and will feature the acclaimed bassist Kees Boersma. The members of the orchestra donate their time and the proceeds of the concerts are given to charities.

Proceeds of this concert will be given to Stand Like Stone Foundation. This will be an extraordinary event not to be missed. Information on how to book will be made available closer to the time.

Back to School - it's not too late to help a local student

We have the opportunity to earn a further 120 vouchers to assist local students in need.  To do this we need to raise $6000, which FRRR will then match with a further $6000 of vouchers for our region. Tax-deductible donations can be made and for every $50 we receive for the Back to School program, FRRR will give two vouchers.  This means the value of your donation is doubled and double the number of vouchers are available to support Limestone Coast students. Click here to make a donation & choose "Back to School Challenge Grant" via the drop down.
