A group of early-career researchers has been selected to work with BBC Radio 4 to help get their work out into the world.
Hundreds of academics in the arts and humanities applied to take part in this year's New Generation Thinkers programme.
Ashleigh Percival-Borley, Beth Malory, Laura Minor, Reetika Revathy Subramanian, Sarah Louise Smyth and Stephanie Brown were selected for the scheme, which aims to find researchers whose ideas will resonate with a wider audience.
They will now receive a year of mentoring
from BBC producers, as well as training from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

There’s still time to apply for a PhD studentship for Black writers, established
in memory of award-winning poet Gboyega Odubanjo. The three-year studentship is at the University of Hertfordshire where Gboyega was studying when he died in 2023. It comes with a tuition fee waiver and maintenance grant. Deadline: 20 June.
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is looking for a policy analyst with economic expertise. You’d be providing analysis, evidence and insight to
support UKRI’s “cross-cutting policy areas”. The role is based in Swindon with hybrid working available. It comes with a salary of £45,272. Deadline: 22 June.
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is offering two entry-level jobs for anyone looking to get into the world of policy. The charity is looking to hire a couple of policy assistants. These are hybrid roles based in York or London. The salary is £29,083.60 per annum, plus £5,000 London weighting if applicable. Deadline: 29 June.
Applications are open for a three-month funded fellowship researching artificial intelligence governance. The Winter Fellowship from the Centre for the Governance of AI is open to candidates who are at the start of their careers as well as those who are already established. There’s stipends of£11,000, plus support for travelling to London. Deadline: 13 July.
An advert has gone out for a new chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. You’d have to attend annual meetings with the Home Secretary and other ministers responsible for drug policy. There’s no salary but travel expenses will be covered. Deadline: 14 July.
Applications are open for a feminist economics summer school in Johannesburg, South Africa, with travel, accommodation and visa costs covered. The summer school is being organised by The Institute for Economic Justice and will take place at
the start of September. Applications are encouraged from candidates across Africa, with priority given to those based in Southern Africa. Deadline: 30 July.
You can now give evidence to a new UK Government inquiry looking at Digital ID. The Home Affairs Committee is looking into “harnessing the potential of new digital forms of identification”. Submissions are welcome in response to a series of key questions. Deadline: 21 August.
Healthcare professionals can apply for support to become independent researchers. The Clinician Scientist Fellowship includes a salary and project costs for five years. You need to already have a PhD to apply for the Medical Research Council scheme. Deadline: 3 September.
