New Requirements for Food Safety Supervisors

Did you know that your Food Safety Supervisor certificate is only valid for five years?

When did you obtain your food safety supervisor certificate? New requirements have been outlined under the Food Standards Code, Standard 3.2.2A, Food Safety Management Tools, in regards to how long food safety supervisor certification is valid.

So how often is training required?

A food safety supervisor certificate is now valid for five years. The certification will need to show that the participant has successfully completed the required units of competency. Enforcement will commence from December 2023. For more information on these new requirements, visit the Queensland Government website here.

Food conversations with kids

When it comes to teaching children about food and nutrition, the language we use in conversations is important. Traditionally, nutrition education is cognitive-based and abstract, which is not how kids think! Kids are concrete thinkers and understand concepts literally.

The fact sheet below provides insight and ideas on how to engage children in food conversations in a fun, constructive and positive way. Have fun with food games and activities, such as a fruit and vegetable guessing game via the button below.

Orientation food and nutrition checklist

The orientation and enrolment process to outside school hours care services is a fantastic opportunity to find out about the food and nutrition preferences of a child, as well as share your service’s expectations around food and nutrition with families.

If you are a service that provides food, uses external caterers, or where families provide lunchboxes (e.g. during vacation care), this checklist will help you to cover off on all of the essential food and nutrition points for each child.
