Positive COVID-19 within Depots

12 August, 2021

Dear Members,

Earlier this week, RTBU Officials received confirmation that the COVID pandemic had spread to Depots in Region 6.

Understandably this is an uncertain and worrying time for impacted members from both a health and financial perspective.

We have been in contact with Transit Systems, and your Union will continue to advocate so that members required to isolate for any period are paid appropriately.

Transit Systems have advised that they will identify any close or casual contact and immediately send impacted workers for a test and then home to isolate and wait for instruction.

Transit Systems will advise on the status of each employee to NSW Health, who will classify members as either a close or a casual contact.

The classification will determine if you can return to work after receiving a negative test result or are required to isolate for the full 14 days.

Transit Systems has told RTBU Officials that any affected site has been deep cleaned.

As the outbreak worsens across NSW, we do not doubt that incidents will occur across the network.  The RTBU has written to the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) asking that Bus Operators be given priority access to vaccination.

Things are evolving rapidly and RTBU Delegates and Officials will update you as new information comes to hand.

In Solidarity,
David Babineau and Daniel Jaggers
