SurPASS Tip of the Month

Data Management and Sharing Plan to be part of NIH Progress Reports

Effective 10-1-24, new Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan questions will be added to the research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs). Award recipients will now be asked:

  • Whether data has been generated or shared to date
  • What repositories any data was shared to and under what unique digital identifier
  • If data has not been generated and/or shared per the award’s DMS Plan, why and what corrective actions have or will be taken to comply with the plan
  • If significant changes to the DMS Plan are anticipated in the coming year, recipients will be asked to explain them and provide a revised DMS Plan for approval.

Complete information can be found in Notice NOT-OD-24-176.

Reach out to Lynn Cummings, Grants Operations Coordinator, with any questions.

ACS NSQIP 2023 PUFs Now Available

The 2023 Participant Use Data Files (PUF) for Adult NSQIP cases and Procedure Targeted cases (Vascular, Colectomy, Pancreatectomy, Proctectomy, Hepatectomy, Thyroidectomy, Esophagectomy, Appendectomy, Gynecology, Hysterectomy, Hip Fracture, Cystectomy, Nephrectomy, and Prostatectomy) are now available.

The 2023 NSQIP PUF file contains 994,313 cases from 676 ACS NSQIP participating sites with operation dates from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. The 2023 Procedure Targeted PUFs covers the same dates of operation. The Targeted PUF Datasets can be merged (by case) with the standard PUF. All data files and are made available in a delimited text, SAS, and SPSS file types.

The PUF contains patient level, aggregate data and does not identify hospitals, hospital demographics, healthcare providers, or patients. The intended purpose of this file is to provide researchers at participating sites with a data resource they can use to investigate and advance the quality of care delivered to the surgical patient through the analysis of cases captured by ACS NSQIP. The PUF is provided at no additional cost to employees (Surgeons, Surgical Clinical Reviewers, etc.) of ACS NSQIP participating hospitals. For more information and to request the 2023 PUF, along with any of the existing PUF datasets, please click the PUF Request button below.

Questions can be directed to Dr. Jon Gould, NSQIP Surgeon Champion.
