No images? Click here Dear FriendAnyone who has lost a child has a strangely different calendar from anyone else. Our year is punctuated by days which are harder than others. One of those is Father’s Day. For fathers everywhere it’s a day of celebration to share with your children, but for a bereaved father there is always someone missing, an empty space for an extra card or a phone which won’t ring. In this newsletter we think especially about the journey of bereavement for dads. Dave shares some of his story and Mike describes how walking with a group of men has helped him. For those grieving over this last year, physical distancing has brought an even more intense loneliness and isolation than usually experienced by bereaved parents. So we have been pleased to be able to offer online support through our day events for bereaved parents and adult siblings, and both will continue over the coming months. With our love Kath and Mike Coulson, Dave and Jane Park PS Mike and Kath have shared their story in this video clip. Email us at mikeandkath@cff.org.uk This is the last newsletter prior to Mike and Kath’s retirement at the end of July, when Dave and Jane will be fully taking over as Bereaved Parent Support Coordinators. Grieving differentlyAs Dave Park and his wife Jane begin to take over leading Bereaved Parent Support, Dave reflects on the early days of grieving the loss of his son, Ben. Walking alongside others on the same journeyMike, one of our volunteer befrienders, talks about his experience on Care for the Family’s walks for bereaved men, as lockdown gradually lifts and we look to walk together again.A Dad’s journey through loss and grieving - I couldn’t fix itA group of dads share their experiences of losing a child and how they grieved differently from their partners.Dos and Don’ts for supporting those who are bereavedAdvice for those who are seeking to support others who have suffered a bereavement - there’s also one specifically for bereaved dads.
