SurPASS Tip of the Month

MCW Research Day - March 27, 2025

The Office of Research is hosting Research Day on Thursday, March 27. The annual event is designated to inspire new knowledge, boost collaboration, and spark discovery with a variety of programming from researchers at all levels. All MCW faculty, staff, students and postdocs are invited to attend! This year, the day will include the Society for Research Excellence Keynote talk, a Research Support & Resource Expo, a Kickoff with comments from research leadership and the inaugural Research Staff Awards Program Celebration, along with several poster sessions.

While RSVPs are not required to attend Research Day, a response would be greatly appreciated to estimate head counts for our events. Calendar placeholders are also available to download for each event on the Research Day InfoScope page. Event Catalog will be released in mid-March.

Participant Compensation

At MCW, there are four acceptable methods for paying and/or reimbursing study subjects for their participation in human subject research.  The PI may select the method most appropriate for each human research study, as it is understood that some payment types may be necessary and/or preferred for certain research subject populations.  Regardless of the method of payment chosen, the PI or designee must maintain supporting documentation of receipt by the study participant.  In addition, the actual payment method must align with the IRB-approved informed consent form.  Study stipends are payable to study participants using the following methods, listed in order of convenience and institutional preference:

  • MCW Study Payments Card
  • Check Payment
  • Gift Card
  • Cash Payment

Please refer to the IRB SOP on Payments for Research Participants which outlines the considerations for each payment method, when collecting SSN is required, and outline of procedures for setting up each payment method.
