2025–2026 Parent Survey Results: Our Path Forward Together

We truly appreciate everyone who shared their perspectives in our annual survey this February. You should have received the results of this year’s parent and guardian survey yesterday, and we thank you for your valuable feedback. This process is far more than a data exercise; it is a vital "pulse check" that ensures our strategic direction remains deeply aligned with the needs of our families. We are encouraged to see strong performances across our annual benchmarks, including a 94% overall parent satisfaction rate. These figures reflect a consistent commitment to the high quality of our educational programming and continuous improvement. Read more.

Learning Together Events

Understanding Headaches in Children and Adolescents

Join CHS alumna (Class of 1996) and parent Dr Alexandra Faber, MSc, MB, ChB, FRCPC (Pediatrics and Neurology) on Wednesday, May 6, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm for this virtual session. Dr Faber will help us better understand why headaches happen, what to look for, and how to support children and youth both at home and at school. You’ll leave with practical strategies to help your child or youth manage symptoms and build lifelong skills for navigating headaches. RSVP and submit your questions by Friday, May 1.

Senior School Coffee Morning: Leaving “Why” Behind: More “What” & “How”

Grade 8-12 parents are invited to join the Senior School’s Personal Counselling team on Thursday, May 7, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge for an engaging conversation on how small shifts in the way we speak with teenagers can lead to stronger connections and more meaningful dialogue. This session is designed as an informal fireside chat, rather than a structured workshop. Everyone is welcome. No registration required—just drop in! In this session:

  • explore why replacing “why” questions with “what” and “how” can reduce defensiveness, encourage openness, and help teens feel more supported and understood
  • discuss practical ways these questions foster emotional reflection, critical thinking, and accountability
  • leave with communication tools that build trust while empowering teenagers to think for themselves

Courage, Creativity, Citizenship

Student Experience

In this issue’s gallery, enjoy highlights from Earth Week in the Junior and Senior School, Junior Kindergarten students exploring the Ideation Lab, Senior School elections, Ivy Compass Camps for Grades 6 and 9, the Grade 2 salmon release at Spanish Banks, Physical and Health Education classes on Kent Field, a visit from author Stephanie Sy in the Junior School Learning Commons, and athletics features!

Last week, students and staff across campus came together to reflect on caring for our planet through Earth Week! In the Junior School, students explored topics like biodiversity, climate change, oceans, waste, and sustainability through a range of hands-on activities. Highlights included creating bird-safe window decals, learning from Eco Ambassadors, planting native species in the Woods, participating in a Zero Power Hour, and a lively recycle relay in the Atrium. Senior School students engaged with environmental initiatives as well, including a lunchtime film screening and Q&A, and a gardening club activity. The week culminated with a fun whole-school blue and green civvies day on Wednesday!

Celebrating Co-curricular Achievements

Senior School co-curricular members have been busy representing our community at competitions and events both locally and around the world over the past several weeks. We’re proud to share a few incredible results and highlights:

Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship in Bristol, United Kingdom

  • Flora, Grade 12, was named World Champion at this year’s Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship!
  • Emily, Grade 10, also had an outstanding performance, finishing third in Interpretive Reading, 2nd in U16 speakers, and 8th overall at the event.

These are exceptional achievements at the highest level of global competition that brings together top student speakers from around the world, and marks a top moment in Crofton House’s history in speech and debate.

Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair

  • Veronica, Grade 11, earned gold in the Senior Division, qualifying for the Canada-Wide Science Fair.
  • Yoyo, Grade 11, earned gold in the Senior Division, qualifying for the Canada-Wide Science Fair.
  • Karen, Grade 11, earned silver in the Senior Division.

Hullaballoo Festival Poe A. Tree Trophy

Last weekend, our slam poetry club competed at Vancouver Poetry House's annual Hullabaloo festival, and one of our CHS teams won the entire competition! Off stage, the team was just as impressive: our students were the warmest, most generous audience in the room, cheering loudest for poets they'd never met and were even competing against! Congratulations to all the CHS slam poets who competed at last weekend’s event: Grade 12s Vanessa, Gillian, Emily, Sarah, AJ, Aeris, Dana, and Chloe; and Grade 10s Grace, Emily, and Alice.

Poetry in Voice Regionals

Sarah, Grade 12, Harper, Grade 11, and Grace, Grade 10, represented CHS at the recent Poetry in Voice regionals, each performing original poems for the audience and judges.

Junior School track and field athletes represented CHS at the Vancouver Olympic Club Track Meet. In Senior School action, the badminton team secured another consecutive ISA Championship title, while the varsity soccer team delivered a strong performance at their ISA Championships. Read more about these events, and other recent matchups and meets on the blog.

A Day in Bloom: CHS Family Floral Workshop at VanDusen Botanical Garden

The CHS Alumnae Association and Parents’ Auxiliary invite current CHS families (parents, students, and guests) to join CHS alumnae for the WONDER Floral Workshop at VanDusen Botanical Garden on Sunday, May 24. There are two 30-minute session options at 11:00 am and 11:30 am. Enjoy a “Tips & Tricks” presentation by past CHS parent and Fleurs de Villes founder Tina Barkley, along with behind-the-scenes insights, before exploring the gardens. Please RSVP here for the workshop by Friday, May 15. Space is limited!

While the workshop is free, participants will need to purchase admission tickets to VanDusen Botanical Garden. More details will be sent out to attendees before the date.

CHS Community Book Club

On Wednesday, April 15, parents and alumnae gathered to discuss Ru by Kim Thúy, a moving account of her family’s journey from Vietnam to Québec and a reflection on migration, identity, and cultural adaptation. Thank you, as always, to Ching Chen for organizing this lovely opportunity to connect with other parents and alumnae.

Join us for the final book club meeting of the school year on Wednesday, May 27, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge. We’ll be discussing All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker (or another of his titles, if you prefer). Blending a missing-person mystery, serial-killer thriller, and love story, the novel explores the shadows of obsession and the enduring power of hope. Light refreshments, coffee, and tea will be provided. Please RSVP here.

Note: If you are interested in an evening book club next school year, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out to auxiliary@croftonhouse.ca.

Grandparents’ Day: A Joyful Celebration Across Generations

On Friday, April 24, we were delighted to welcome grandparents and significant elders of our Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 students for a joyful afternoon in Manrell Hall filled with shared moments and special programming featuring grandchildren. A huge thank you to our Grade 4 student ambassadors, the many parent volunteers who supported this event, and event chairs Nimi Johal and Paige Lai for creating this unforgettable experience for our youngest students and their elders. View the gallery here.

Reminder: Staff Appreciation

The CHS Parents’ Auxiliary is pleased to host our annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, May 21, in the Old Residence. This is a special annual opportunity to recognize the dedication of our teachers and staff. See April 27 email for more details. Please consider contributing funds for catering and/or volunteering on the day by Monday, May 11. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Another Popular Used Uniform Sale

The PA’s Spring Used Uniform Sale was a great success once again! We’re sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed, whether by donating uniform items or volunteering their time at the sale. A special thank you goes to our event chairs, Ai Lin Tiah and Cara Yu, for their leadership in organizing and running all three sales throughout the school year. It will be Ai Lin’s last sale at CHS, and we are grateful for her idea and dedication to helping it grow into a thriving, sustainable initiative (read more). Stay tuned for information about the next one in August!
