Cities all around the globe spend millions of dollars to market the assets of their community to attract investment, talent and tourists. This class will focus on a broad range of marketing strategies that cities implement to attract both companies (investment) and a workforce (talent) ranging from public relations, to research, to digital advertising, to branding, to websites, to special events. We’ll take a behind the scenes look at how a city determines the key messages that will most resonate with its target audiences, and how a city uses various marketing techniques to communicate those key messages. This class will include an interactive activity to allow the students to put into practice a few city marketing techniques.
