In Case You Missed It

  • Student/Resident Research Mentorship Database: The Division of Research is implementing initiatives to organize the process of matching research residents and medical students with faculty members for research opportunities. These opportunities are to be strictly for volunteer work done by the student. Specifics on task work is completely up to the faculty member’s discretion. If you are interested in mentoring, please fill out this Qualtrics survey.
  • NIH Scientific Data Sharing Website: Whether you are involved in an NIH-funded project and want to understand which sharing policies apply to your research and how to comply, or you are a researcher looking to access scientific data from NIH-affiliated repositories, this site is for you. | More information
  • Grant Writing Club: Designed for anyone in the grant writing process, provides peer feedback on grants prior to or after to submission. Participants should send a draft of their grant 1-2 weeks prior to the meeting for dissemination to peer reviewers. The club is highly interactive and participants are required to review and/or submit. Please email Rachel Morris, MD if you are interested in participating.
  • Department of Surgery Intranet Site: Cultural Complications/Grand Rounds/Quality Minute presentations, Surgery Sparks of Gratitude, Global Surgical Programs, Finance/Reimbursement links, DOS Phone list, and resources for logos/fonts/templates. | More Information

What Early Career Researchers Should Know (Part 2): Discovering Strengths to Advance Your Research Career

Building on the “hidden curriculum” of Part 1 of this series, NIH experts share experiences and perspectives on how personal growth and professional development intersect, setting a plan to identify your strengths, reiterate the importance of engaging your network, the power of communication, and much more. This second episode of the two-part NIH All About Grants Podcast mini-series explores ways to apply their strengths to advance their professional advancement.

IRB Fees

The MCW Institutional Review Board (IRB) assesses fees for review in the following scenarios:

  • Standard review of any industry-sponsored research project that meets the NIH definition of a clinical trial
  • MCW will rely on a non-MCW IRB for review of an industry-sponsored research project.
  • MCW IRB will serve as the single IRB for a multi-site study. Both NIH policy and the Common Rule from the Office of Human Research Protections have mandated sIRB review for most multi-site studies. MCW sIRB review fee is assessed regardless of the type of funding.
