Welcome to the August newsletter

Dear

We are very excited that it's only a few weeks until our new students will start their educational journeys at Leeds Trinity. Our alumni had the opportunity to reminisce about their own student memories recently, as Thursday 15 August was A-Level results day. We loved that so many alumni shared a few words about their Leeds Trinity experience on our X and Facebook channels.

If you know of anyone going through Clearing who may be interested in the courses we offer, please don't hesitate to put them in touch with our friendly Clearing team. Find out more.

Outstanding New Teacher Award for Ciara

Huge congratulations to Ciara Daley (Primary Education, Later Years, 2023) who was recently announced as a Silver winner for Outstanding New Teacher of the Year at the 2024 Pearson National Teaching Awards.

Ciara, who works at Carlton Junior and Infant School, organised visits and established routines which increased attendance and well-being across the school. One of the initiatives was on teaching children about the importance of oral hygiene, which involved reaching out to local dental practices and charities. Read more.

Rhiannon shortlisted for making a difference

Congratulations and good luck to Rhiannon Matthews (Theology and Religious Studies, 2020) who has been shortlisted for the 2024 Make a Difference Awards.

Rhiannon saved her pupil's life when she showed symptoms of having a bleed on the brain. Hear more.

The Make a Difference Awards offer the chance to say thank you and recognise those who love to make life better for others. The winners will be announced from September 2024.

Remembering Matthew

On Friday 23 August we hosted the annual Matthew Huggett Memorial Cricket Match, which marked 10 years since Matthew, who was studying Sports Journalism, sadly passed away from a rare form of spinal cancer.

It was another very enjoyable occasion at Horsforth Hall Cricket Club, with the usual win for the Alumni Lions team against Leeds Trinity staff. On the day we raised £110 for St Helena Hospice which cared for Matthew during his illness. Read more.

A speedy catch up with Charlie

During August we also had an amazing opportunity to catch up with Charlie Russell (Sports Journalism, 2019) for a photoshoot and interview at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.

Following graduation, Charlie began his career at Lincoln Football Cub. After working in professional football for five years, he moved to McLaren Racing in June 2022, as Senior Motorsport Communications Executive with the Formula One team. See video.
