FALL GAMBLE ROGERS CONCERT SERIES

 
 

Jordan Tice with Noan Partly perform TOMORROW NIGHT, November 18th.

The Live from The Waterworks concert series celebrates the legendary recording artist Gamble Rogers, whose balladry and storytelling shaped American folk music, on the third Saturday of each month at 7 PM.

General admission tickets are $20 - $25 on Eventbrite.

Premium tickets are SOLD OUT!

Next month's concert is on December 16th: John Paul White with Hadley Parrish-Cotton.

 
 

CALL FOR ART: Solo Exhibition

 
 

The St. Johns Cultural Council is seeking submissions for a solo exhibition at the Rotunda Gallery of the St. Johns County Administration Building in St. Augustine, Florida from February through March 2024.

We invite St. Johns County artists - 18 years or older - to submit a portfolio of 10-25 images of their work for consideration. There are no generic, stylistic, or thematic constraints; artists working in all genres and styles are welcome to submit their work.

The selected artist will receive a $1,500 stipend to cover exhibition costs.

Gullah Geechee Heritage Festival

 
 

The 10th Annual Gullah Geechee Heritage Festival returns to Elkton, Florida, at Armstrong Park on Saturday, December 2nd, from 12-5 PM!

Celebrate 450 years of African cultural influences in St. Johns County with dance and musical performances, traditional foods, and crafts. Learn about Gullah Geechee culture and the history of the Spuds, Elkton, and Armstrong Communities from a variety of organizations.
 
Free and family-friendly with food and beverages available for purchase.
 
Proceeds of this event support the SEA Community Help Resource Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping others cross over the sea of sub-standard housing, homelessness, and hunger.

ROWITA Nominations are OPEN

 
 

Each year, the St. Johns Cultural Council recognizes women who have profoundly influenced the artistic environment of St. Johns County with the Dr. Gail Pflaster ROWITA (“Recognizing Outstanding Women in the Arts”) Awards.

Members of the community are encouraged to submit nominations of women who have made significant contributions to the arts in St. Johns County through their work, leadership, or philanthropic support.

ROWITA recipients will be recognized with a ceremony in March during Women's History Month.

St. Johns Cultural Council Honors 2023 State of the Arts Grant Recipients

 
 
Join us at The Waterworks on December 7th from 4:30-6 PM for the Holiday Open House, where we will honor the recipients of the Fall 2023 State of the Arts (SOTA) Grant. 
 
These grants, presented annually, are available through funds raised by the sale of “State of the Arts” specialty license plates and have provided more than $150,000 of support to arts organizations and individual artists in St. Johns County.

End the Thanksgiving weekend by gathering with poets and poetry lovers at the Maria Reyes-Jones Studio on Sunday, November 26th

Gainesville Fine Art Association is seeking work for two upcoming exhibitions: 

Growth

GFAA’s final exhibition featuring its governing values, the Art Association is seeking works that broadly feature the meaning of “growth.” 

Apply by November 20th at 4 PM. $30 for members, $60 for non-members. 

Veiled: Hooded and Hidden

Through design, research, and creative forms, the exhibition will showcase the work of Black artists while examining America’s educational barriers to Black history in institutes of higher learning. GFAA’s aim is to illuminate untold stories, fostering a meaningful dialogue on identity, community, creative expression, and civic engagement within the Afro and Black Diaspora.

National Park Service: Saving America's Treasures Grant


The SAT program provides preservation and conservation assistance to nationally significant historic sites and collections with a grant pool of $26.5 million. Preservation projects fund physical preservation of historic buildings, sites, structures, and objects. Collection projects include conservation of artifacts, museum collections, documents, sculptures, and works of art.

VSA Playwright Discovery Program

High school writers with disabilities are invited to submit a 10-minute script of any genre for the opportunity to participate in a playwright program. Writers are encouraged to craft works from their own experiences through fictional characters and settings, writing realistically, metaphorically or abstractly about any topic.

Winners will receive exclusive access to workshops provided by the Kennedy Center, will have the opportunity to work with industry professionals to develop their script, receive coaching, and participate in networking opportunities.
