Tactile Tours at Victoria's PrideMidsumma will again be working with Vitae Veritas to curate and deliver a Tactile Tour during Victoria’s Pride. What is a Tactile Tour? Tactile tours are available to people who are blind or have low vision to equitably access and enjoy arts and cultural events in theatres, galleries, museums, and public spaces. For people who are blind or have low vision, touch is a powerful and fast way to perceive, form and/or complete mental pictures of an object, person or environment. The experience has often been described to be like 'seeing with our hands'. At Victoria’s Pride 2024, trained guides will journey around the precinct, exploring different physical spaces (indoors and outdoors) to understand dimension, layout, and scale, while interacting with different objects to feel shape, texture, and weight. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with people, discuss their work or share stories and knowledge. They can be super fun! Could your business be involved? Tactile Tours provides a wonderful opportunity to include and engage with the blind and low vision community. We encourage you to get involved! What could be interesting to experience through touch, smell, or taste? Or what might be engaging through storytelling? Tactile Tour interactions only require about 10-15 minutes and Vitae Veritas will connect with you before the event to support any preparation. If you would like to be involved, please contact the Victoria's Pride team at vicpride@midsumma.org.au
