ARTS NEWSLETTER JUNE 2012

Hi Everyone,
Happy winter to you all - and as a welcome to the new season, the met service has predicted some pretty cool weather. If it's not snowing it should be blowing they said. Hopefully it won’t stop sky watchers who will want to see today’s historic ‘Transit of Venus’ which is the planet Venus travelling across the sun. The laws of orbital mechanics do not bring the planets into position again until December 2117 and I’ll be long gone. Hopefully the weather will allow this phenomenon to be visible and if you do want to have a look, make sure you have special eye protection or use safe viewing
techniques click here for more info. It must be the time of year for theatre, as Fine Thyme Theatre in Cromwell has their show ‘Back to the 80’s’ on this week. The Clyde Theatre group is presenting Roger Hall's 'Social Climbers' which starts on Saturday 9th June, and following hot on its heels, the Fortune Theatre is bringing their latest production,
‘Two fish and a Scoop’
to Central. The latter is on in Alexandra, Cromwell, Queenstown and Ranfurly and has been described as a socially aware, funny and deeply affecting play. It's a busy month with the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival on too. Check out below everything that is happening and try to get along to support these events. Regards Maxine
