Resources for students having personal and academic issues

With midterm exams upon us and several more days to go before spring break, you may be encountering students who are experiencing personal and academic difficulties. Here are the resources available for students you can remind them of:

Primary Care Health Services and Well Woman assist students with physical and mental well-being.
Primary Care Health Services Location: Lower Level Brooks, 212-854-2091
Well Woman Location: 119 Reid Hall (first floor of the Quad), 212-854-3063

Furman Counseling Center offers several forms of support for students, including free individual counseling. Their counselors also offer one-hour workshops throughout the year to help students develop personal skills in a variety of areas, such as maintaining balance, stress management, romantic well-being, and smart emotional living.

Remind students to visit their Class Dean in the Dean of Studies Office, who can meet with them by appointment and during walk-in hours. 
Location: 105 Milbank, 212-854-2024 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday

Residential Life and Housing staff and their RAs are on-site, trained, and ready to listen to and support students.
Location: 110 Sulzberger, 212-854-5561

Nightline is an anonymous, non-judgmental peer listening hotline that primarily serves the Columbia/Barnard community and its affiliates by providing them with a listening and referral service. Staffed by committed, caring, and trained Columbia/Barnard undergraduates, Nightline offers a safe space for students to talk about anything that is on their minds.
Nightline is available to listen every night of the academic year from 10 p.m. – 3 a.m. at (212) 854-7777.
 

 

 

Key Deadlines for Advisers

Thursday, March 28, 4:30 p.m.
Last day to withdraw from a class with a W.  Adviser signature required.  Students may not drop below 12 credits.

Thursday, March 28, 11:30 p.m.
Last day to elect the Pass/D/Fail option. Unlike dropping or withdrawing from a class, P/D/F election is done online and does not require adviser approval, but we encourage students to consult you or their Dean if they are considering P/D/F.

Monday, April 1
Student Planning opens for students to begin planning their fall class schedules.
      
Monday, April 1 
Begin meeting with your Advisees and grant them “Permission to Register” in WebAdvisor. Need a refresher on how the “Permission to Register” process works? Visit:  "How to view your Advisees’ course selections and grant permission for their initial registration."

Monday, April 15 - Friday, April 19
Registration open for Fall Semester 2019
