Click here Fostering Independent LivingTo help deal with the challenges associated with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Mike was placed in a nursing care facility where he was able to receive round-the-clock care. As his condition improved, Mike was anxious to live independently and return to the family home in Swansea that was built by his grandfather. With LifeStream’s help, Mike is back home and enjoying his independence. “The family home meant a lot to Mike and it was where he was most comfortable,” said Maria Pacheco, Assistant Director for ABI Services. “LifeStream staff members go to his house daily to help him with cleaning, cooking, shopping, medication management and transportation to appointments.” Mike attends LifeStream’s Supported Employment and Day Programs which offer additional skills training to help him with daily tasks. “Since Mike is living on his own, he looks forward to the visits from LifeStream staff, and they enjoy seeing him as well. Importantly, we’ve been able to help him obtain a level of independence that was so important for him.”
R E S I D E N T I A LSassaquin residents capitalized on the great fall weather on their new outdoor patio. Honoring the memory of Armond NicolaciLifeStream’s Sassaquin residences in New Bedford underwent some wonderful remodeling projects thanks to the generosity of Pat and Huguette (Hugie) Nicolaci. These two homes, built in 1981, were among the first in the community to serve adults with disabilities. Armond Nicolaci, the son of Dominique and Lidia Nicolaci, one of LifeStream’s founding families, was one of the first residents to live in one of these homes. Some of the remodeling projects included upgrading two handicap-accessible bathrooms, replacing lighting fixtures, painting the interior of the home, new flooring, and a new outdoor patio/pavilion to be enjoyed by the individuals in both residences. “Allocating the appropriate funding for maintenance of our numerous properties has become challenging, especially in light of the additional financial strain brought on by necessary Covid-19 safety measures. We are extremely grateful to Pat and Hugie Nicolaci for this very generous donation”, said LifeStream President/CEO Bonnie Mello. “It is a wonderful tribute in memory of their nephew Armond. This will greatly enhance the quality of life for those who currently reside in the homes.” Pat and Hugie stressed the importance of improving the quality of life for the individuals living in the homes, as well as thanking the employees for their dedication and commitment to providing quality care.
